Mother of God, release Breslow, Ogando, Machi immediately.

That should solidify Breslow as the worst relief pitcher in the major leagues. If he throws another pitch for the Red Sox, they are only trying to tank and for no other reason. Keep him. Helps with the tank job

Thought Bogaerts was getting to that ball. There should have been 2-3 errors on that play. Bogaerts has been much better this season good even but on that play he showed little range and at worst he should have knocked the ball down. Then the dropped ballin center the runner goes for third and Panda drops the ball when the runner is halfway and can't come up with it until the runner gets back, arggg!

Well, the folks that wanted the young starters to do well and then have the pen blow it are 1 and 0. I'd rather the young starters pitch well and win. But I'm an old relic who doesn't get it.

Maybe they can designate Farrell as a player manager and he can pitch the next pair of innings!

How the heck did they went into this year with Taz and a 40 year old as their BP? Inane.

John Sterling keeps referring to Ramirez as the SS in his play by play. Says the throwing error by Ramirez opened up the floodgates in the 7th.

I finally turned the channel when Michael Kay referred to Teixeira as having an "MVP-like year."

There are two good news about tonight's sh*t show: 1- Owens did a pretty ok job; 2- Breslow might just be DFA'd.

It was pretty freaking hilarious that John Smoltz was talking about how we might be able to get something for him because of his ERA. Dumb***.

ROFL, the only luck the Red Sox have had all game, when they're down by 10 for Castillo.

Machi is the least of their worries. I'd get rid of Breslow, Ross and Ogando before him.

how in hell the pinstripes are able to turn a layman into Clark Kent is beyond me. It's mind boggling.

Where did Layne go? He went down while Machi got added, and Breslow being a barnacle to this team.

I don't know why anyone would be upset by a game like this, when we learned some important, good things about Henry Owens.
We saw Alex Rodriguez swing through an XX-mph first-pitch FB that was in a somewhat hittable location, a bit down and in. The question you should be asking is, if you didn't know the pitcher or the velocity, what velocity would you fill in for the result to be unsurprising? I'm saying, 95, but of course it was actually 92. Everything I saw tonight was consistent with the idea that Owens' size and delivery makes his FB velo play up about 3 mph, and that MLB hitters have no special ability to see through his body and hence pick up the ball earlier than AAA hitters do.
He also showed a very good slider; in fact, it was his best pitch by linear weights.
This is a guy with stuff good enough to be a 3d or 4th starter even with the inconsistent FB command that is typical of tall young LHP. I can still see him turning into a #2 or even an ace at some point later in his career.

I have to agree with Eric.
Owens showed promise tonight. The rest of the game was a crapfest, just like the whole season.
Normally I loathe losing to the Yankees and I hate seeing them make the Sox their personal pinata, but at this point who really cares?
A win tonight would have been nice, but not really significant.
Winning 10-9 with Owens getting knocked out in the 2nd wouldn't have done much for the Sox.
It was nice to see that Owens, if he can improve his fastball command and become more efficient with his pitch count, could definitely be somebody to pencil into next year's rotation at some point.

Man, I have got to stop walking in on these games. Went out to do a little watering, here in the ever-drying West, and came back to a 9-3 score! Breslow hadn't come on yet when I left, and the score was still 4-3 but with people on base. I had been hoping they'd leave Owens in there to see how he'd respond to having runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. I'd rather have watched that than Ross, but I suppose the pitch count plays into this.
Once he settled down he was in control for quite a few innings. Ellsbury looked lost a few times, and gave it up to what looked to be a superb changeup. The kid has some promise. I'm glad they have him a start and I hope he gets a few more.
Encouraging to hear that they're being very cautious with Johnson, also. That, apparently, drove the decision to shelve him for a while for what sounds as if it might be a fairly mild strain. Hope I'm right about that.

I like what I saw from Owens last night. He had a rough first inning, which is totally understandable. I am hopeful that we have, at a minimum, developed a serviceable component to the starting rotation.
I get that the season is lost and it's ok to be dispassionate about the final score, but I would still like the team to play a spoiler role versus the Yankees. If I ever become so cavalier about losing games like that to the MFY, I'll have reached the point of being disinterested in baseball and the Sox. I hope that never happens.

Very encouraging. Needs work on fastball command as we've been reading throughout his development. Better off working on it in AAA or MLB? Cautionary note. I think 2-3 of those flyballs towards the 399 sign are off the wall at Fenway and A-Rod's is prob out of the park.

I think 2-3 of those flyballs towards the 399 sign are off the wall at Fenway and A-Rod's is prob out of the park. I'd have to agree with you on all counts. What I have seen in Owens was borne out last night. Few hits but when they come, its hard contact. His command is an ongoing issue. I am sure it was impacted by nerves a bit. His velocity was higher than expected perhaps from an adrenaline pump. At least he kept the Yankees at bay and that was better than I expected. What was very refreshing was Eckersley's calling out the team pitching talent...." a mess"...Jerry and Don, both of whom I like, are not in a position to be that frank and honest. To hear Eck felt good.....you have a deep infection?...Go get your root canal. It will take 2 years for the Johnsons, Owens's, Swiharts to 'arrive', if they do. Who knows what JBJ or Castillo turn into...There is no talent in AA and AAA has graduated most to the Sox. Papi & Koji are squinting westward in search of the green flash and the payroll is nearly tapped. Perfect storm for a couple of cold winters.....
