Yeah, I'd love him but you're prob talking about clearing out prospects 1-3, minimum. ANY kind of trading at this point would be almost counterproductive......we have no more "he's blocked by such & such" or "he's expendable/redundant", we need our current crop of prospects to offset our expensive FA's.....I would even hate for JBJ + Owens because we may need Owens this year & they will not do JBJ + Marrero + Kopech type deal. Dombrowski has done an excellent job since taking over the reigns. I'm grading him at A- so far (it would be a straight A if he'd been able to convince the Padres to take Trey Ball instead of Logan Allen in the deal for Kimbrel).

If Wash is interested in Mike Leake, can we pawn Porcello's contract off on them?

That means Cecchini's almost certainly not going to clear waivers.

If anyone thinks the Sox overpaid for relievers this off-season, then they should check out the package the Astros just sent to get Ken Giles. People here would of called that the worst trade in the history of baseball if that was the Sox.

Will dombrowski regret his decision to not go after a #2 starter this offseason?
Other than that omission, he has had a great offseason thus far.

Not sure where to put this: Cafardo has written an article on the defense of the 2016 Red Sox infield, which in itself is a good topic. He's even using advance stats, or at least he tries... He writes that Bogaerts posted a 8.0 dWAR this season. At first I thought that may have been a typo, but later in the article he writes that Sandoval had a -15.1 dWAR season...How does he still have a job? It's not that he is misinterpreting the table in Fangraphs (he looked at the 'defense' column), but he doesn't understand that what he writes is just impossible. He doesn't understand the metric. www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/12/09/holes-red-sox-infield-may-need-patching/zp1wnivHn7t6QgDJCJyKgJ/story.html?event=event25

I am in the camp that thinks he will go after one before the trade deadline.....with Swihart being the centerpiece. Maybe if they feel they really have to and the prices come down. But I think he likes the starters that follow Price. It's easier to go into the expecting o eof those guys to step as the #2, than as as the ace. Porcello's bounce back, Rodriguez' continued growth, a partial season of Buccholz all can be that guy. Buch often pitches like a #1 when healthy.

I would have to think he tried, but looking at what Shelby was traded for & it appears that was the going rate, he didn't want empty the farm to obtain one. Carrasco & Salazar would probably command a similar return. In FA, Leake & Kazmir would have been an option, but I don't think they wanted to commit another 15-20 mil for 4-5 years for another pitcher. I don't think they are a huge upgrade to our 2-5 SP's.

Will dombrowski regret his decision to not go after a #2 starter this offseason? Other than that omission, he has had a great offseason thus far. A few things here... My own feeling is that the Sox' pitchers took a bit of criticism that was due in large part to terrible defense. Sandoval's lapses, Ramirez' catastrophic outfield play, the fluid situation in rightfield, the loss of Vazquez and then Hannigan, and Napoli's regression all cost them games. That's going to be different this season. I don't think it's an accident that Porcello and Kelly looked so good at the end of the year with that revamped outfield. If you read Speier's recent email, you'll see it has nothing at all to do with omission. In order to get another starter Dombrowski would have had to gut the starting team, hurting both the offense and the defense. He surveyed the market and that's what he found. Why take one step forward to take two steps back? There are also nine possible starters. It's not as if the trading season ends with the winter meetings. There'll be lots of time for more moves later on if they can't find a combo that clicks. He also mentioned the value of having that depth, given the uncertainty about Buccholz. Making moves just to make moves smacks of desperation. He had a really good hand to start with and he's played it very well so far.

The Red Sox did not make a selection in the first round of the Rule 5 draft, nor did they have anyone selected. I'll post the results here in a moment after I check some spelling.

I really like the A's going with Jabari Blash. The guy has crazy raw power and gets on base. We'll see if it translates to the MLB though
