Two sharp curves and an inside fastball to Flaherty there. Dominating sequence.

Such quick hands. It's really hard to sneak an inside fastball by him, though I'm glad pitchers keep trying.

Amazing that that one somehow stayed inside the park, I thought it was gone for sure.

The wind giveth, the wind taketh away. He crushed that, into that jet stream. That's a summertime blast to Lansdowne.

Glad I'm not reading the gameday thread on birdprospects.com, they've gotta be all over Wright.

Can you say that with a straight face? Calling his D sub-par is like calling Shaw a gold glove 3B. In his current shape I don't see him as anything but a negative war player going forward. His bat would need to be a lot better then league average for him to not be a negative war player at 3b. Without his power I also don't see how his bat plays at DH and 1B. Until he gets in shape he is useless. Even if he's as bad defensively as he was last year, with a ~100 wRC+ bat, he'd still be no worse than approximately replacement level. If his defense is even a little better than it was in 2015 (which I suspect it will be), he's an asset. His bat wouldn't play well at 1B or DH, but it wouldn't be terrible (four AL teams had a sub-100 wRC+ last year at DH, for instance), and it's probably better than the next-best option in the organization. How do you think his D will improve? He looks to be in worse shape then last year. The guy is so fat that he broke his belt while batting this year. 3\4 past year's he has a negative dwar. Only his contract year did he get in shape and play good D. Classic example of a guy that got contract and just stopped getting in shape. Sure if he would get in shape he could improve, but he clearly doesn't care anymore. If he did he would have come into this season in better shape. He was called worst positional player in Baseball and he seems to have put in less work this off season. He needs to get traded or released ASAP.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but FWIW, the Red Sox finally signed another situation lefty, inking Wesley Wright and they're stashing him at Pawtucket.

So what do the Sox do if/when Vazquez is ready by mid-May or earlier? Does he get the bulk of the starts, and if so, does Swihart just serve as a bench player and 2x a week starter?

Ice genuinely never seen such a bad staff. We're not going to hold an opponent to 3 runs all year.

Seriously, Clay Buchholz is the goddamn worst.

Too early for a thread on the "race for the top ten protected draft pick" thread?

It's too easy to blame Swihart. Buchholz has never made a pitch to pick up a teammate in his entire career. His lack of resilience is stunning.

Bah. Hate that this one got away from Buch here. Still, his stuff looked much better today than in his first start, so that's encouraging. Needs to get his command back now.

Trading Moncada would be a colossal mistake. We're already at almost a 200 million dollar payroll with a ton of deadweight.
