Sounds like Wilkerson will take Elias' start in Pawtucket today, with Elias being called up to Boston.

Owens is having command issues, Elias has faced the Astros multiple times in the past year, and all three candidates are LHP. Pick your poison.

I'm not sure Elias is coming up to take the start on Sunday. I think he's coming up to be the long man in the bullpen for Friday and Saturday, and then he'll go down and Owens will come up to take the Sunday start. Owens, by the way, has always had a reverse split (because he throws his changeup more and it is more effective versus RHH), which makes him a nice matchup for the Astros.

I hope you're right, because I actually want Elias in the pen. I think he'd make a good reliever and lefty killer, as well as a good long man option. He's not going to be a great starter, and that role would be of great use for this team right now.

Elias has a 8.59 ERA @ Minute Maid. Granted in only 14 IP (also 11 BB)....still think I would pick a different poison, maybe Varvaro as he has been pitching well. If it's solely for mop up reasons for a few days, I guess it makes sense. We already have a lefty killer.

If it's for 2 days, it makes no sense to do that. (See Hinojosa, Dalier) The other option could've been Light, but they may not want to use him like this quite yet.

For those of you who may be interested, the Portland vs. Hartford series will be at Hadlock, as the Yard Goats stadium isn't finished yet. While Hartford will still be the "home" team and bat last, it appears that tickets are sold as if it were a traditional home game.

1999.....so roids are on the house? Nice reference to the passing of a superstar artist (one who certainly didn't do any steriods....other things maybe tho).

Who is the corresponding add to Portland's pitching staff? If it's for one or two starts, there may not be one. McCarthy probably just takes the start and they'd still have a seven-man 'pen. This is from the Wilkerson thread, but I'm putting it here b/c it has nothing to do with him. Anyway, if McCarthy (or Atkins) is indeed going to take that rotation spot, then if you look at that roster... isn't it ripe to add Benintendi, if anyone? I don't think they're going to do it, but... they definitely could.

Bryce Brentz has been added to the Portland roster and activated from the DL. Batting third tonight in RF.

Paw Sox add Keith Couch from XST. Culture of winning incoming! In all seriousness, this effectively brings my man Couch one step closer to his long overdue MLB cup of coffee. He can't be worse than Noe Ramirez right now so yeah I do hope it happens.

He can't be worse than Noe Ramirez right now so yeah I do hope it happens. You've been carrying that torch for so long now it should be your avatar. The Moncada's and Espinoza's (rightly) get the lion's share of attention, but Couch and other cup-of-coffee-as-ceiling guys are really the heart of minor league ball (not the goal or the point of minor league ball, but the heart). I hope Couch gets his chance as well, although setting the bar at Noe Ramirez is so low it constitutes a tripping hazard.
