Overall this was not a fun night. I hope the Brown pans out. I did like the Zizic pick. The #16 pick was meh. The lack of of big trade was boring, and that trade with Memphis was terrible. I guess I'm going to try and talk myself into being happy Danny is waiting for the right moves, not forcing anything. Maybe next year will be the year to go big. Heyward makes a lot of sense as a FA. Snag Brown, draft and stash players. And a sneaky good trade or FA signing this summer before a possible deadline deal most likely at least wins you a round in the playoffs, maybe two. Then you dream on the Brooklyn pick and a major move.

Don't love the trade-- think they got bad value, especially since early second-round picks have such favorable contracts. Looks like the pick is lottery protected in 2019 and 2020. Still the Celts needed to push some of their assets into future years because they don't have space for 8 picks. A future low to mid-20s first round pick seems like a pretty good value to me. Second rounders rarely make it. If it was just 31 for the 2019 pick, I'd be fine with it. They gave up two high second rounders, though. They're basically moving up ten or fifteen slots three or four years from now-- is that worth giving up 35 this year? Not in my mind.

Bentil at 45 would be a steal.

I live in Kentucky so I know the UK guys, no way I ever draft Skal, soft as a pillow. Ulis is going to be in the league for years to come as a backup. I personally think the Celtics should have drafted Murray, b/c that guy can flat out shoot and the Celtics need that. I wanted Brown to come to UK for the season but he did not we can't get them all. I think Boston might pick Alex Poythress with one of their picks in this round. Incredible athlete with a confidence problem, he can provide minutes off the bench as a 3 or 4. That is my thoughts. It is truly fun to be a UK fan the last few years and of course that makes me a NBA fan as well. I really don't have a favorite team just like the one the UK players are on. I do wish Cousins would get out out of Sac-town and on to a better organization like the Celtics.

You're telling me you couldn't draft Davis and see if he can't figure out how to shoot in the d league? Or draft zhou qi at 35 and send him pizzas in china?

Do not understand why they did not accept Philly's offer of Noel, Covington and two firsts for #3

Because they like Brown more than Noel.
And after that, the last thing they needed was more picks in the 20s.

My first thought was that it was another case of reading/hearing about something that just wasn't true. But Wojo is usually so tied in its more likely that Chavo is right.
That being said, it kinda makes you wonder what Boston actually thought they could get from Philly as that package seems to be the max of what they could/would offer.
Was Boston hoping for Embiid as well? The Lakers pick? What else might they have been looking for?

Couple of other thoughts:
- Obviously, this draft will be measured by the success/failure of Brown. Regardless of what the other players do, if Boston hit on him then it's great. If they missed, they wasted the first REAL opportunity from Brooklyn.
- Beyond that pick, prior to the draft, if you had told me that Boston would end up with Yabusele, Zizic, Bentil, Jackson and a future 1st rounder, I'd have been pretty happy. Much like last year (Hunter THEN Rozier would have seemed more in line with expectations), it was the order of things that was stunning. Of course, that means there is potential for missed oppurtunities between the selections.
- The depth that was added is impressive (for both next year and the future). But, of course, depth wasn't a need.

I'm disappointed we weren't able to get more trades done, but I think it's hard to be critical of Ainge for that. Sometimes there just isn't a deal to be made.
I'm just crossing my fingers Brown can take a George/Kawhi/Butler/Giannis kind of leap and be a much better player than people are predicting.

Not to mention the Celtics own Memphis' 2019 1st rounder(top 8 protected). So if this somehow improves them and Davis turns out to be something then its a really bad deal.

I think you are over valuing second rounders. I haven't researched it, but I would guess a guy taken at 20-25 is much more likely to make it than a guy at 31-35. Anyone the Celtics would have picked would have been stashed in the D league or overseas until at least 2018, so if they pick a guy in 2019 that sticks on the roster right away there is little difference.

I'm pretty disappointed in Danny's team. They just can't draft well.
I didn't really expect a big trade to be made and Boston kept their ability to make moves/have flexibility, which I am happy about that. But their picks were terrible. Slow footed stash players? Why? They could have traded down and still got Brown too. It's confusing.

What if the pick ends up #10? 20? and in a better draft? Look we can't draft/sign/play 8 guys....and this was reputedly a weak year. I can see, even on value, trading 31 and 35...and especially when you can't use them now, for the strong likelihood of moving up down the line. Chad Ford likes Yubasale....a Jared Sullinger with hops and better shooting. And what if he can trim to 240-250? Brown shot the lights out when he practiced for the C's on two occasions. By reports he was one of a few (only one?) who wanted to practice against other players. He has fire...sounds like a dirt dog Celtic. All the picks have talent.

They could have traded down and still got Brown too. It's confusing. A couple things: I understand being upset with the draft and that's fine but you have to be a little more understanding than you are being. Saying things like "they could have traded down and still got Brown" is just flat out wrong and not based on reality. Brown was a guaranteed top 8 selection with the real possibility that he could have been selected at any time within that range. So even if you could trade down to whatever spot you were thinking, there is no guarantee he's there for you. But even more important is you need a team to trade with. Who in the top 8 is moving up to 3? And what are you getting from them that makes that move worth it for you? I don't love Brown but if the Celtics do then they made the absolute right move to take him at 3. Every other player in the top 8 comes with some big questions. I get the argument Dunn is the best of them all but he also plays the deepest position in the league right now and the deepest position on this roster. I wouldn't draft because of that but I'd use it if I had players close. Now, this is why I'm ok with the Brown pick even though I don't love it right now. This team needs star players. You only draft this high so many times and right now we are relying on another team to get us these high picks. Brown has super star upside. I don't believe any of the other players in question have that true upside (I don't buy the Chriss stuff). At this spot you swing for the fences and that's what they did. I'm fine with that.
