If Terrence Jones is willing to take a ballooned 1 year + 1 year team option deal with Boston, I think he's an interesting guy to bring in on that type of contract. The number would likely shock you for the 1 year though.

I don't think there's any chance we can sign 3 max free agents next off season, as those deals are a % of cap. To sign two this year we need to renounce all free agents like Zeller, Sullinger and Turner. We also need to not pick up our non guaranteed contracts. We talk of players like Crabbe getting long term deals in the 10-13 million range on long term deal and Marvin Williams getting 2 year deal for 38 million or 3 year deals for 50 million I just don't see Sullinger not getting a big long term deal this year. Only chance we keep him on one year deal is if no one offers him an offer sheet and I just don't see that happening. I hope your right though. My worry with replacing Sullinger with Mickey is that team does worst next year and are no longer seen as an up and coming young team as they are now. Which is why free agents are finally knocking on our door. Maybe you can't sign three but that doesn't change the point I'm making. I don't want Sully potentially impacting major adds over the next two years. You disagree that's fine. But I think the mentality of "we can't lose a player for nothing" is a dangerous one in a sport where the wrong contract is deadly. How your contracts are layered matter a great deal. I get your point, but if we give Sullinger 12 to 15 million a year, you could still sign two max guys next year easily. The cap is going up another what 16 million to 110 million next year. Due to max deals being % of cap you might have to dump a few guys like Young or Hunter, but you can still sign two Max guys if you can get them to sign with us. I understand how NBA works and contracts, you are 100 % right. I just don't see a Sullinger deal at my numbers impacting future moves. As it would be a little over 10% of the cap by next year. If he gets a max offer I have no problem letting him walk out the door. I know 12-15 million seems like a ton for Sullinger, but with rising cap it's really not a lot for a good young player.

The number would likely shock you for the 1 year though. With his injury history and a down year he might take a deal like that. All depends what he gets for long term offers. I haven't seen him play since his Kentucky days. What happend to him? Is it all the injuries, bad team fit or just the mess in Houston ?

The team needs stars, and committing long-term to non-stars just weakens the chance of getting one. If we can't land Durant, wait until next year when there's a better class of FAs and we'll have just hopefully landed another stud in the draft to make us even more attractive.

They gave QO to Zeller and Sullinger which I expected. They are expected to pick up Johnson's option but no word on Jerebko which it would be surprising if they didn't pick it up.

Actually, they have agreed with both Jerebko and Johnson to push the decision date back from July 3rd to July 7th. Would suggest that picking them up is NOT a no-brainer (but also that letting them go probably depends on Boston landing or having confidence in landing some free agent targets)

Celtics are one of two teams to secure a meeting with Horford.

They get to control where they play next year 2. They get to make more money if they Celtics decline the options. If they didn't agree to push it back the Celtics pick them up and possibly trade them to a lousy team that needs to reach the cap floor.

Lakers sign Mozgov to 4/$64m, Clarkson to 4/$50m (!), Whiteside re-signs with the Heat, Batum re-signs with the Hornets, Drummond re-signs with the Pistons, DeRozan re-signs with the Raptors.

Wow - stupidity reigns supreme early in free agency. Teams are going to over estimate this cap hike early and make bad decisions.
Mosgov.... 4/64 with the Lakers. WOW so dumb. The guy is a dinosaur in today's NBA - only played 25 mins in the entire 7 game series in the finals.
Knicks 4/72 (not yet official) with Noah! This guy is old and washed-up. What are they thinking?!?! It's awesome tho. Adding two washed up Bulls from a crappy team thinking it makes them contenders. They are going to have an injury prone team with no depth and Porzongis... How long until Anthony, Rose and Noah are all on the shelf?
Portland offers Parsons 4 year max deal? First, why? Second, how does he leave that meeting without signing that contract.
Star players aren't stupid, this Mozgov signing it's going to hurt the Lakers on and off the court. Happy days.

I read somewhere last night that even if Boston "waives" JJ/Amir, that their contracts will be claimed by another team. So the contract they signed last off-season will be what they play for this season. So it is a no-brainier that they will get their options picked up, it's just a matter of if they're still with Boston or on a different team, they'll get paid the same -- from what I read. Boston would likely be better off waiting until the end of FA to make a move, unless Horford/KD want to sign. Fun times in the NBA!

Lin signs with Nets 3/39. He will put up good numbers on that team.

And so it begins with BKN. Probably still a bottom 7 team, but better than what people are thinking.
I actually really like that deal for them.

Lin is a good player but the Nets are still one of the worst 3 teams in the league lets be real here.

In this environment, that's a great contract for Lin, and at the very least he'll help sell tickets/advertising/international media rights.

Lin isn't a great player... He's flashy at times and had that run with the Knicks so he's over rated... I don't know his defensive numbers but in fairly certain he's a terrible defensive player.

Lin's significantly better than their alternatives and on a really nice contract for this off-season. Ideally he's a backup PG on a good team, but I'm sure BKN is happy with his signing, especially with the International attraction he will bring.
I don't expect the Nets to be good or anywhere near, I just don't think they'll be the worst team in the league after FA ends.
I hope I'm very wrong.

Beal got a 5-year max from the Wizards apparently too, and the Nets are talking to Jennings and Bazemore, but Bazemore is apparently asking for something close to $20m/yr?

Lins deal with Nets is just what I expected. Would expect another 2-3 similar type players in coming days. Lin is a massive upgrade over Shane Larkin.

We will see where the Nets end up but of all the lottery teams last year I find it hard to see who they are going to blow past. I'll take a closer look at it though

Yea keep in mind that all of the other 5 worst teams in the league by record added a top 5 pick, and Phoenix added 2 top 10 guys. And also none of them have traded any of their 2 best players from last year. I'd be pretty surprised if Brooklyn managed or wants to spend it's way from a bottom 3 team to a bottom 5-7 one- makes no sense. They just need to be seen to take some steps in the right direction, they dont want to destroy all their future flexibility and next year is the last year the cap makes a significant jump

If Chicago trades Butler/Taj, they could be really bad.
Not sure it's happening at this point though.

Lets take a way too early look at who the Nets will be competing with for worst in the NBA. Start with last years lottery teams. The Nets won 21 games last year.
Sixers (10 wins) - added Simmons in the draft and have good young players looking to take a step forward... Lets see what they do over the summer... could definitely be worse than Nets again.
Lakers (17 wins) - Kobe retires - added Ingram should contribute right away and other young very talented players could take big steps forward especially with Kobe gone. Resigning Clarkson was a good move, but Mozgov is a bad signing. Could still be worse than Nets again. Advantage they have is they are more attractive a landing spot for free agents and they actually have top young talent that can improve
Suns (23 wins) - Added two good talents in the draft, but probably won't help them next year. They certainly have a lot more talent than 23 wins though and underachieved last year.
Timberwolves (29 wins) - Added Dunn to Towns and Wiggins plus other good young players. I don't see how the Nets are better than them - team on the rise - should win 35-40 games
NOLA (30 wins) - Depends on Davis's health but if he's Healthy with the addition of Hield they should improve
Knicks (32 wins) - I can actually see this team collapsing, but it's probably unlikely they are that injured that they tank that far down the standings
Denver (33 wins) - some really good young talent and added Murray. even if they don't improve a lot in the win column should still finish ahead of the Nets.
Sacremento (33 wins - Cousins will keep this team dangerous and respectable unless he completely checks out and blows up which is possible. I can see this team being worse than the Nets if for no other reason than they are a complete mess.
Bucks (33 wins) - Greek Freak, Parker and Middleton alone should keep this team better than the Nets.
Magic (35) - Added a reduntant piece in Ibaka to Gordon... sure they are different but hard to see how they play much together. Vecevic is a good player; not a huge Payton fan though... Might lose Fournier... this team could tumble, but I find it hard to believe they won't make some big signings or at least retain Fournier after that Ibaka trade.
Jazz (40 wins) - this team is incredibly talented... they will be a playoff team most likely
Wizzards (41 wins) - will be better than the Nets
Rockets (41 wins) - kind of a mess but too much talent
Bulls (42 wins) - I guess it's possible this team goes into full rebuild mode... could lose Gasol, Noah and Rose... those sound like bigger losses than they are
Detroit/Indiana/Memphis/Dallas/Portland... no way
So who are the early contenders for worst in the NBA... Sixers, Lakers, Kings, Suns and Nets
