Thought I would start this thread. Jesse Sanchez of mlb.com released his preliminary Top 30 for the 16-17 signing period. So far there aren't any prospects linked to the Red Sox. Looks like the Braves and Padres are going to spend heavy this year. m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=int

Almost 2 years later and Espinoza alone was worth it.

Almost 2 years later and Espinoza alone was worth it. Or, y'know, Moncada alone too. Of course, when you can game the system by signing a guy and a few of his buddies to $300k deals, that helps.

There's a certain cache to the "sign 45 guys and hope something shakes out" approach too, though. The $50,000 bonus surprise 4 years down the road is like finding a long-lost $20 bill in your coat pocket, then dropping it in a "what-the-hell" moment on scratch tickets, and winning $2000. Those long-odds guys are easy to root for.

Mike (Virginia): Given the MLB's current "investigation" of the Red Sox 2015-2016 international signings, do you think this will be an extremely quiet J2 for Boston? Probably won't get a well-named talent like Guaimaro or Muzziotti, right? Ben Badler: The Red Sox are still going to be very active again, at least within their $300,000 limit, especially in Venezuela. Nobody at the level of Albert Guaimaro, but they're going to end up with some good players. www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1464741822

Any updates on MLB's investigation of the Sox signing process?

Do we just have the $300K restriction for one more year?

The leagues sure do love to go after Boston huh. Excuse me but that is freaking ridiculous.
Does that mean Moncada's deal could be voided by the MLB office in New York?

Presumably, they mean the 2015 J2 class, so the Guaimaro-Muzziotti class. The issue appears to be that MLB thinks they worked around the signing bonus limit by signing many players to package deals, potentially with the understanding that the money would be funneled back to certain players, the latter part being the issue. Who knows whether or not that's what happened, but it seems clear to me that's what MLB thinks happened. So that's the class that it would make sense to void contracts in, not the Espinoza-Moncada class.

Why is the MLB targeting the Sox though specifically? Several mentioned other teams do this.

Why is the MLB targeting the Sox though specifically? Several mentioned other teams do this. No other team was as close to as blatant about circumventing the bonus restrictions as the Red Sox. No other team under bonus restrictions last year signed a BA top 30 prospect, while the Red Sox signed two.

Buster Olney @buster_ESPN Boston will not be allowed to sign any international amateurs during the 2016-17 b/c of violations, and contracts of players involved voided
That's brutal.
