I actually think it is Dombrowski who brought him back up. And the choice was between Leon and Butler. Leon had more MLB experience and some familiarity with this staff. Really a no-brainer. No one could've expected that he'd reveal his true super powers when he did get the call. Though we're all glad he has. Believe it or not, some will be pissy because he's playing instead of a Sox prospect. Same with Clay, some defend him til the end. Kind of like Hitler's bunker. Citation needed.

I think you and James are essentially right, but to be totally accurate, don't we need to normalize for where those runners are on the bases and what kind of hits are driving them in? Because the Sox have hit so many doubles and are also not bad in triples, they should be expected to drive in more of the runners that are on base (at least when Xander is on 1B, say, rather than Ortiz), AND they should be, on average, in better position to score when they put themselves on base. You're going through the thought process here that leads to the BaseRuns statistic. This basically asks: given the walks, singles, doubles, etc. a team has had, how many runs should they have scored if those events had occured in a typical order? As you can see, the Red Sox have indeed underperformed a bit (5.65 actual RS/G versus 5.74 expected via BaseRuns) on offense, but not to the extent they have on defense (4.94 actual RA/G versus 4.58 expected).

What's up with Price? One pitch one run. HR's galore in his starts.

I was about to make a "good thing we have our ace starting tomorrow" post but then I realized that it's getting kinda worn out to write that every time Price starts...

Great -- Price has thrown 17 pitches and has yet to record an out.
These starters only have about 4 starts left before the Sox have to decide what they are going to do at the trade deadline. There is precious little time left to convince rational people that the Sox should be anything but sellers. Yes, they are in playoff position now, but 100+ years of baseball history tells us that the Sox pitching is bad now and will get ground into dust, especially the bullpen, as the season wears on, and the team will sink. We have already started to do so.
There really isn't any reason to make an acquisition or two to shore things up because the pitching is sufficiently mediocre or worse up and down the line that what the Sox could do even by trading from the top of their prospect roster is not going to make the team a viable Championship contender.

David Price right now feels like an overpaid Yankees aging star that we love to mock but without the part where he's actually productive before sucking. He's the Jacoby Ellsbury of pitchers.

Nothing like your 3-4-5 hitters popping up after two men reach. Gross With a runner 90 feet away. Xander has an IFFB percentage of 18.4 and Papi is at 6.8 percent. Someone more proficient at math than me (which is just about everyone) can figure out the odds of the two of them leaving the runner at 3rd with IFFBs. To make the circle complete, Hanley (11.1 IFFB%) popped up to end the inning.

If MLB really wants to speed up games, robo umps behind the plate would be a tremendous time saver.
