Cutch, did you really just swing at that? Seriously! What has happened to him over the years?!! Oh well... thankfully we got out of that one. PS Note to JF: Barnes should not be your man with runners on.

JF using a LOOGY correctly, good job. Did Scott pass Abad on the depth chart?
edit- Did I speak too soon? Abad is up in the pen with 5 straight RH batters up and no lefties on the bench.

edit- Did I speak too soon? Abad is up in the pen with 5 straight RH batters up and no lefties on the bench. That's flat out to give them a false sense of security and remove any urgency. Don't hurry up boys, Abad is coming!

Clearly Xander wasn't kidding when he said he was going to steal more bases this year.

Kimbrel is going to kill us all this year. We made it through last year. I'm just glad his velocity is there.

6 posts complaining about Kimbrel, and not a single one celebrating the opening day win. Never change SoxProspects. Never change.

On Leon's bunt (he had a nice game), Cole, who shall we say has expressed some ambivalence about the shift, gave a hard glare into the Pirates' dugout as if to say "we're shifting against Sandy Leon?"

Cutch, did you really just swing at that? I said this last year and got jumped on for it but I'm going to double down anyways. McCutchen is a shell. He's a long way from the player he was 3 years ago. It's too bad because I liked him and I wish the Pirates could have a sustained run of success. Edit: I know his 2015 was still a very good year but it was a step down... I followed him closely and he quite wasn't the same. Also, I know statistically speaking it's way too early to declare him a shell but call it a prediction. I wouldn't touch him if I were a team unless conditions were right.

Saw the Bennie Bomb on the highlights. My eyesight is pretty bad but that was either a 96 or 98 mph high and inside which he turned on precisely, the first game of the year like it was nothing. I think the highlight video said 98 mph. This kid's bat speed is under reported.

The best part about the win yesterday is that the Sox won on a pretty even pitching matchup. Both Cole and Porcello are as equally talented. Now the Sox have their best and most talented pitcher pitching in the tomorrow's game in Sale. I like my chances for a win tomorrow too.
I still scratch my head seeing how Farrell trusts Robby Scott over Abad. I don't scratch my head over the decision, because it was the right one and I think Scott is better than Abad. Just confuses me that the Sox are basically ackowleging the fact that they knew Scott was better and they still tendered Abad a contract. They threw away 2 million dollars in a year where they need every penny saved against the CBT. Ohh well.
Great win, this collection of young talent might be the best this franchise has had collectively on one team in the history of the franchise. 2007/2008 was close but this young core takes the cake for me. Hopefully Farrell can mix and match well enough until Smith and Thornburg come back. That and this bullpen needs to step up. Calling out you Kimbrel and Barnes. Both need to be better and I think they can be.

I am never confident with Barnes and felt that, first game of the season, it would have been wise to remove Porcello after 6 giving our depleted, currently less than stellar pen, a clean start. I may be jumped on for this especially given the off-season effort and early on-field performance, but does it look like Pablo may have relaxed his caloric regimen just a bit?
