I know I was thinking I can't believe how long it's taken Benintendi to get great street cred. He was drafted in 2015... by the end of the year he was a top 15 prospect in baseball - less than a year later he was raking in the majors and playing cool hand Luke in the playoffs... now less than 2 years removed from college ball he's hitting second in one of the best lineups in baseball. What took so long for people to catch on? Edit: sorry I couldn't resist. It's ok! ( really, I'm used to it now and don't even mind any more. I'm thelavarnway guy and ever shall be. It's fun to put me down even when I'm actually right. ) Some of us had Beni as our #1 prospect over a year ago when most people were gaga for Moncada. Sorry! Couldn't resist! Really though, no doubt it was a meteoric rise but HELLO, what took many of YOU so long. The guy just crushed a HIGH AND INSIDE 98 MPH fastball out of the park on opening day. How often do our guys hit anything over 98 MPH let alone a HR? Especially a high and inside fastball. Beni is for real and has been for a very long time. He was driving the ball in college and immediately in the minors and consistently showing every indication of being for real. I think he's going to have a great year with Mookie hitting behind him and Pedey on base in front of him. Edit: I should have read farther before commenting. Thanks for the nice things said. I do appreciate it! All I want is to come here without being ridiculed for no reason. That should be achievable. I don't even comment that much any more. FWIW my posts had nothing to do with you personally, just the content of the posts. It still surprises me that anyone can think it took people along time to jump on the Beni bandwagon. But I hear your message.

It's reclamation bias. He flamed out as a starter and the hope, for some of us, is that he can cut it as a reliever. Turning a comfortable game into a close one isn't the way to keep that (smaller) flame burning. Agreed. I would hope that folks would just allow for more than 1 outing before starting on the veiled DFA Barnes narrative. I dont think anybody wants him DFAd, just far away from high leverage spots.

I know Barnes has lacked consistency, has been tantalizing, all that jazz. However, this is probably the year where we will find out if there is a top shelf reliever in his skill set. Surprised to see all the negative commentary on one outing. Reeks of confirmation bias. Barnes has always had command and control issues. His WHIP is consistently high as well as FIP. The results were indeed confirmation of past performance. Of course what other choices for middle of innings on base situations do we have currently? This is my argument for starting relief innings clean while we are understaffed and at time we have some off days. The Yankees took Sabathia out after 5 with a 5-0 lead and 90 pitches.

irony n. Simultaneously believing that one game is enough to ticket Benintendi for the HOF while chiding others for jumping to conclusions about a poor performance by Barnes

Simultaneously believing that one game is enough to ticket Benintendi for the HOF while chiding others for jumping to conclusions about a poor performance by Barnes If this is directed towards me, I don't remember ever writing that Benintendi had a ticket for the HOF. I also didn't chide people for jumping to conclusions, I said I was surprised to see all the negative commentary after one outing, and acknowledged he is flawed. That is quite different context. Not buying your application.

Barnes is Manny Del Carmen to me. I'm hoping for a couple good years out of him hopefully. He is cheap. He may never be that great but we have little to lose and much to gain. Relievers run hot and cold, in large part to sample size maybe. He may have some hot runs in him. Make him a middle inning guy and hope he gets hot and can got in the 8th later.

This is why I wanted Benintendi to get reps in RF in spring training. Now we get to see the Sox worst outfielder and worst arm on the team in RF Fenway. Would of made more sense to put Selsky in at RF since he's already on the roster. He's way better defensively. Farrell at it again.

How many WAR would Young put up in RF in Fenway vs. RHP? I'd set the bar at -2.0/150 games

Terrible managing decision. Hopefully it doesn't cost the Sox.

Did not know Holt was out.
At least Sale looks like as good as he's ever looked so far.

Twice tonight Moreland has hit nice lofty fly balls that might be crushed in the summertime. Still hitless as a RS.

Sale looks good. Anyone else think that pitching for a legitimate contender might bring out the best in him?

Sale looks good. Anyone else think that pitching for a legitimate contender might bring out the best in him? I think you could be right on this. He has a reputation as ultra competitive to begin with. It must feel Christmas everyday to be in this organization now.

I mean....could someone explain the rationale for batting Moreland 5th? I don't usually comment on this stuff, because I am not really smart enough to figure this stuff out, but this just seems silly. Is he trying to instill confidence in him? Please help me understand.
