Wendell Rijo!! Used to love him. He hasn't been in the system for 6 years and is still kicking, that's crazy

The Braves managed to get Hoy Park through waivers and outright him to AAA. So I guess we were probably exactly one team away from pulling that off ourselves.

RIP Bill Campbell who was the Red Sox 1st big signing of the free agent era (technically Hawk Harrelson signed as a free agent a decade earlier when Hawk had a falling out with A's owner Charlie O Finley)
Campbell had success with the Twins out of the bullpen. While the Yankees were signing Rwggie Jackson, the Red Sox signed Bill "Soup" Campbell.
After a rough April in 1977 with his new team, Campbell was a workhorse closer who had a fantastic season.
But Don Zimmer overworked him and it caused the arm injuries he would have after 1977.
He wasn't much of a factor in 1978 and it cost the Red Sox, the division perhaps.
With a healthy Campbell the Sox most likely win at least 2 more games and quite possibly could have avoided Bucky Dent.
Campbell started to get healthy by 1981 and he would leave the Sox and become a solid middle reliever with the Cubs, Phillies, and Cardinals.

It is interesting how many ex-Red Sox players and prospects have been picked up directly from the Red Sox by the Baltimore Orioles!
Andrew Politi Eduard Bazardo Darwinzon Hernandez Franchy Cordero Travis Lakins Chandler Shepherd Jonathan Arauz Denyi Reyes
These are just in the last few years….and I am sure there are many others.

Wasn't there someone that did scouting for SP a few years ago that went to go work for the Orioles? Or am I just thinking of Meoli

More sad news.
Former Red Sox CF Lee Tinsley passed away at the age of 53.
He was the leadoff batter on the 1995 division winning Red Sox.
He was a pleasant surprise, hitting better than he ever did. When he started to tail off at the end of the year, veteran minor leaguer Dwayne Hosey chipped in.
He chipped in well enough that Duquette traded Tinsley along with Ken Ryan to Philly fir Heathcliff Slocum who eventually was dealt to Seattle for minor leaguers Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe.
So Tinsley along with Ryan showed enough to eventually help the Sox get core players that helped them win the World Series.
The bet on Hosey didnt pay off in 1996. His defense was bad, about Duran level and he didnt hit and with Greenwell and Canseco flanking him the outfield defense was horrendous, kind of what 2022 looks like if Duran winds up in CF. So the 1996 Ref Sox had a gaping hole in CF.
So the Sox actually reacquired Tinsley in 1996, but he didnt hit and eventually gave way to newly acquired Darren Bragg.

Joan Taylor was a Dombrowski trade acquisition that debuted in 2019 although he was probably acquired for Devin Marrero sooner....so Marrero has effectively turned into Mondesi Jr.

Me recollection is the Sox DFA'd Springs first. So he was a goner either way. They picked up Hernandez last minute when the Rays took a shot at Springs to make sure they'd get him.
