Don't know if "fell off a cliff at 24" actually fits. We thought his 23y (4.9fWAR) season was his breakout season, but looking back it just may have been an outlier season (fueled by good fielding). He has 3x 1.7ish seasons and a 2.8 in his walk year (2022). Looks like we just may have been to high on him and a sub 2 fWAR might have been more realistic

Benintendi's career is a big surprise to me. Thought he was going to be a perennial 800 ops player with an all-star year or two. I’m always amazed when guys just lose it. He was a pretty good player who looked like he could get even better and instead… all ip in smoke. Glad the Red Sox traded him when they did.

It took 20 years for me to realize that Pokey Reese’s name given to him at birth was not actually Pokey

I still wake up each day expecting Adam Hyzdu to somehow pop up in the transactions feed.

Tito? Hell yeah And who can forget Mark MalaskaThere's no way that's a real guy who pitched 20 innings on that team. I feel like this is some collective Sidd Finch level conspiracy.

Curtis "The Mechanic" Leskanic, still one of the best nicknames ever for reliever. It's like a step away from being the name of a Serial Killer.
by the time he came to us his shoulder was held together with Scotch tape and Silly puddy, but the old crafty salt got a lot of important outs with his 86 MPH heater

No the legend is true "Baked Malaska" got to ride the Pawtucket shuttle a couple times I think. I don't remember a single thing he did

Shohei Ohtani doesn't acknowledge the debt he owes Dave McCarty nearly often enough! .258 batting average and a 2.45 ERA with nearly 10 K/9 on a World Series winner??
("debt he owes" was unintended but awesome)

Dave Roberts is managing the Dodgers, Bill Mueller is a hitting coach with the Marlins.
Maybe Pedro just hasn’t confirmed his logistics yet? He’s as tight with the organization as almost anyone on the list and his protege Bello is pitching that day.

Very excited to see Manny and Ortiz get back together again.
Growing up in the 90s, I remember thinking that the 86 Series was something in the distant past. To now think that the 2004 Series is closer to 86 than today puts things into perspective. Also makes me appreciate how great of a run we've had in Boston sports.

As an Xennial, 1986 feels to me like it was 60 years ago. 2004 feels like 12 years ago. 2018 about 18 months ago.

I remember 1986 and 2004 like it was yesterday and plenty here have memories that stretch back further, much further in some cases.

I remember there was some event where he came back to Fenway and the team was honored. When Leskanic got to greet Johnny Pesky along the baseline, a hot mic caught Pesky saying “Leskanic! You son of a bitch!!” With a huge smile on his face. Everyone in the room with me was howling. I was a big Leskanic fan. He was obviously very well liked on that team of “idiots”.

He was there yesterday but couldn't stay for the game.

No Mark Bellhorn, Alan Embree, or Doug Mirabelli, Wakefield's personal catcher. Googled around a bit and Embree is a pitching coach at Bushnell U in Oregon. No idea about the other 2.
