2017 Celtics offseason

I wouldn't say Yabu is a lock to make this team. Also if you add him, I'm not sure trading Smart clear enough cap space for Hayward and Yabu. Some reports about Celtics maybe trying to package those players to get another better player. I don't see it. They don't make enough money. You are basically looking at players on rookie level deals. A player like the Unicorn. I don't see that happening. We need more bigs. There is no way around that. You can't lose Johnson, Jerebko, KO, Zeller and Mickey, then replace them with Zizic, German big and maybe Yabu. You need at least two Vet bigs. Finding a trade partner for Crowder is tricky, as the best fits don't match up well, are in divison or we own future picks. The Jazz, Raptors and Kings could really all use Crowder. I don't see a trade with Jazz that makes sense after they traded Lyles. Toronto has two players we could use, but do we help a division team? The Kings have WCS, but Crowder could really hurt there future pick in 2019 if we don't get the Lakers pick. You can add the Pacers to that list, but again they don't have much to trade, unless they would move Leaf. Bradley and Smart are a lot harder to guess on which team needs them. Not as many huge holes at PG and SG. This is what I was trying to say up above. My bad said it poorly. OK I get we need to trade somebody to be able to sign Hayward. Second I understand Bradley, crowder and smart are the 3 best options to get the necessary space. Harder to accomplish than it looks. Trade the players away and get little or no money in salaries back, but still get a Danny value deal back.

They just don't make a lot of money and you need to clear like 3 million to sign Hayward. Maybe another 2 million for Yabu. So the players you can look at is very limited. It's basically guys on rookie level deals and picks. I would really hate just picks, unless you can get a deal like Rip said. Future unprotected picks, but after the Nets, Lakers and Kings trades in past years that might be real hard. You would think teams would learn, but who knows. I'm not looking for a Danny home run either. Just a fair deal that can help us. I just don't want to see a deal were we only get a late first round pick next year. We have more than enough late first round picks the next couple of years.

Kyle O'Quinn? Makes about $2.7 Mn less than Jae and Danny has liked him in the past. Seriously, it's hard finding a match for any of the 3.

FWIW, I don't see much in Leaf and I don't think they would trade their first round pick anyways. I actually watched the Pacers Mavericks Summer League game yesterday.... I guess Leaf lit it up the first night tho - not that it matters much.
The kid I liked on the Dallas squad was Brandon Paul. He's a Pg... went undrafted last year out of Illinois. I bet he makes a team.

I'd happily send crowder to the kings for cauley-stein - with hill, Randolph, crowder and the young guys (fox, hield, labissiere) they have a solid team, which does obviously hurt our chances of getting a really good pick in 2019. On the other hand, the lakers pick next year would have a better chance of conveying.
It's an interesting thought experiment to try to figure out which teams should be worse than the lakers next year, even though I do think LA will improve. The only teams that I think are good bets to be worse are Brooklyn and Orlando, Sacramento, maybe Chicago are the only other teams that seem, on paper, like they would be worse than the lakers and sending crowder to Sacramento knocks them off that list in my view. They also just offered otto porter the max so it's possible that we might be able to get a 1st down the road out of them too, maybe lottery protected? Never hurts to add extra trade chips

I wonder if any teams have any potential lottery picks in their possession that isn't theirs (kind of like Philly when they sent the Lakers/Sacremento pick here). I'd probably try to acquire an asset like that in a trade for a Crowder if you can't find a match for a big man with another tean.
Then what you could do is use the mid level exception to go and try and sign a free agent big (maybe Bogut?)

We have more than enough late first round picks the next couple of years. I know this will sound crazy, but does trading brown help the situation from the cap standpoint? You drafted Tatum and Ojeleye and just got Hayward. All three appear to be better offensive players who play good to excellent defense. Plus you still have crowder. Maybe you get something good back. Danny would never go for it, but does present an interesting situation for teams to consider what to give up to get him.

Noooooooooooooo.
EDIT: Okay, serious response now.
- Danny said he pretty much hangs up when people ask for Jaylen in trade - Jaylen was part of the pitch to Hayward (suggesting he's part of the plan) - If all end up what they project to be, Brown/Hayward/Tatum can play together.

Teams seem to really like him but those are precious to most teams.

The way Browns shot looked the other night I wouldn't be surprised if Jaylen was a dangerous 3 point shooter next year... ok maybe dangerous gives wrong impression but effective.... 37-38%

BUT, he certainly would not have the problem of teams interest in trading for I'm that crowder, Bradley and smart present. I think it would fun to see what other clubs would offer to get him. How about brown, rozier and the draft pick they just picked up for porzangst. Just playing around.

Besides which, I don't think it really makes to deal jaylen, who has legit star potential by the look of him, because there's no one available around the league as far as we know that would be worth trading him for. Especially if they weren't willing to include him for either george or butler

Wow CBS sports has got Celtic's considering trade for Marc Gasol. What would Danny give up to get him? What does that do to cap number's? Does he conflict with horford?

Gasol is someone they have their eye on, but it's highly unlikely. Aside from the numbers not working out, he's getting up there in age as well.
I expect them to find a short-term stop gap for center as they wait for Zizic to develop.

I don't see how that works with what Gasol makes. You could trade Crowder, Bradley, Smart and Rozier and I'm still not sure you get enough savings to sign Hayward. Something like that would be easier after you sign Hayward. Horford can play with Gasol. They are both great passers and Horford can play outside the paint. Only thing like WCP said is Gasol is getting older and his rebounds are way down. I wouldn't gut our depth for Gasol.

You got to think this deal trading one of Crowder/Smart/Bradley comes within the next couple days, I can't see the Celtics leaving Hayward hanging too long.
Regardless, I think the Bogut mid level exception deal is a good one. I'm not sure of the free agent market and who else is our there for big men that would consider the mid level exception.

Sure it would free up the space needed if you traded him for picks or a rookie level deal that is really low. Thing is it's better to just move Smart, Crowder or Bradley. With Smart and Crowder making more sense. If you trade Bradley you almost need another guard that can shoot. Smart vs. Crowder is no easy choice. You can make great chases why you should keep both, but one of them has to go. That's why Danny gets paid millions, to make decisions like this one.

Please no. I love the player, but he can't stay healthy. We can't spend mid level money on Bogut. Much rather go after James Johnson, Green from the Griz or Ilyasova. A good solid Vet that has a good chance at staying healthy. Those players can all shoot the 3 ball to, seems like a must in our system. Signing Bogut with the bi-annual exception or Vet min deal wouldn't be bad. As to Hayward I think they have more than a few days. It's a done deal, just waiting on paperwork. I think he would rather wait and have the team make a good move. Rather than rushing them into a bad one.

I can come up with compelling cases to keep or to trade each of them. Gahh!

Supposedly, Griz haven't even talked to Green. Possible they are just waiting to match an offer sheet but seems odd (and this is from his agent via Bleacher Reports FA Big Board)

A young player I like to replace KO would be Henry Ellenson of the Pistons. I loved him coming out of College and he looked good last night in Summer league. Not sure if they would want to trade him, but he would be the type of young player I would target in a trade.

Yeah, I can't see how Gasol works,
Would love to see us make a run at Alan Williams. He's restricted, but I don't know that Phoenix would match a multi-year starting near the mid-level exemption. He's mainly just a rebounder, but he has poor man's Tristan Thompson kind of rebounding ability. And showed a bit of potential on O late this year as well.

They seem like they are very close to rebuilding in my opinion. I wouldn't want to tie up cap space on a player like Green if I was the Griz. I don't know if that team can even make the playoffs next year. Randolph is a huge loss for them and Parsons just can't stay healthy.
