Looks like Tatum will start tomorrow so that Irving - Brown - Hayward - Tatum - Horford lineup will get a good look tomorrow night. Can't wait... While I'm excited to see this lineup too, I think this says more about the availability of Morris. He's only played in one preseason game and has been brought along slowly. Must be a injury limiting him so far. I expect Morris and Baynes to get more starts in the season.

Tatum starting of course has to do with Morris in one way shape or form.

If you listen to Smarts agent, it sounds like they were working on an extension but couldn't get it worked out. It's an interesting situation that's likely compounded by Rozier and to some extent Brown's presence. It's quite possible Smart has a very good year and it costs them more money longterm to extend him. BUT it's also possible Rozier and Brown show big improvements that affect the Celtics desires(need?) to extend Marcus. Basically, we have to assume Kyrie is a guy they plan to keep longterm so there is very little chance they keep all 3 of Smart, Brown and Rozier. I think it's obvious that Jaylen is a safe bet to put in the longterm plan column as of today (things can always change). That makes it between Marcus and Rozier.
I think they would prefer Marcus in an ideal world because his versatility is so unique. Who else can have their point guard switch onto a big down low and hold his own? That ideal world includes him improving in certain areas like being a bit more consistent with the shot, getting to the rim and one on one defense vs quicker PGs. I'm sure the Celtics want to see Skinny Marcus for the year and are willing to pay him more depending on what happens. It's a good gamble because you have Rozier.
As for Terry, I can see multiple possibilities (not in any order):
1. His production combined with value exceeds that of Smart and they keep him instead.
2. It becomes obvious after they extend Marcus that he's not in the longterm plans and they trade him for whatever they can get or let him play out his 5 years because they are contenders.
3. He develops really well and they package him with Horford to roll over the salary into another player. (If things go well tho - Brown and Tatum are the guys you are holding that salary for and Horford ages well but takes less money to stay longer at the end of his career).
4. He just never really develops and they move on after his 5 year contract runs out.
In an ideal world Marcus is the longterm solution here out of the 2 players, but having the two of them is a great spot to be in for the Celtics.

Didn't realize that Morris has such a history of guarding Lebron well enough to have a video you youtube dedicated to just that. Lebron is unstoppable but at least he makes things difficult and has a plan.
