So let me get this straight. Nightengale says we can get Frazier for chavis, but need to include Groome for Robertson. So basically Groome for Robertson, but then later says the yankees can get him for just one prospect and downplays that prospect. Im not connecting his dots

I honestly don't understand what people think we would do with J.D. Martinez. We'd obviously want to keep him the hell away from the outfield, and Hanley can't do anything but DH, so how would we even get Martinez into the lineup? hanley's takes Travis' role. It's a win-win: - Travis gets regular ABs in AAA. - You limit Hanley's PAs for that 2019 vesting option I understand why this is unlikely to happen, but I like this more than anything else I'm seeing. Upgrade a replacement level player with a 3.5war DH who would be a top target to sign in the off-season as well. At this point Hanley isn't good enough to be a starting DH so he would be more useful as a backup and he can compete with Travis for 1B job next season (assuming they resign Martinez, who will be 30)

Prado to the DL with a knee sprain. Gotta figure that takes him out of the running as an option (thankfully). A source close to the SOX told me they may try and sign Nick Punto for 3B You sound as reliable as Nick Cafardo!

The only way I'd do that deal is if Jose Abreau was thrown in the deal, with Moreland going back the other way. That'd be a lot more fair imo. That's just about the ultimate in stupid predictions. Your Abreu proposal would even it out, although I still say just call up Devers.

With the number of guys they could deal I thought this was interesting. I wish we could get involved with Alex Avila and do a platoon with CV but I haven't seen a thing about us going after a C.
Also good news if Hanley could play 1B BA LHP allowing Young to hopefully find his groove as a DH vs them.

#Tigers are optimistic they're on the verge of a trade or two. As GM Al Avila said yesterday, they expect something to happen "soon.'' 3:59 PM · Jul 18, 2017

I know the relieving market has gotten ridiculous in recent years but Jay Groome and Chavis for Robertson and Frazier? Are you kidding me Bob? You want Groome, you give me Abreau at the VERY least.

Good news though, Rafael Devers is absolutely not available in any deal this deadline. So no matter what, the Sox are keeping their very best prospect post deadline.

Wow Frazier has extreme Home/Away splits since going to Chicago favoring the road. Never noticed that. This year he has a 145 wRC+ on the road.

I'd love to have Justin Wilson and he's probably one of the few relievers I'd trade Chavis for.

Arizona is about to trade for JD Martinez, so cross him off the list.
What a loaded lineup they have.

I really like the idea of Frazier and Robertson, but only for a fair deal. I won't overpay. There seems to be a massive amount of good relievers available, so lets hope it drives down the price.

Underwhelming return for Detroit Don't know any of the prospects heading to Detroit but if the Sox missed their chance to get a JD Martinez for what amounts to very little, then that's really dissapointing to say the least.

Underwhelming return for Detroit You would think that lowers the cost for Frazier....right?

Has anyone heard any rumors of first basemen that are going to be available at the trade deadline? I know the White Sox are selling? Is there first baseman available? Here's a name I would imagine is available as a 1B/DH player: Kennys Vargas [Twins]. Never seen a player bounced between the ML and AAA so many times in my life. I think with some consistent playing time he can rack up some decent numbers....he's got big time power and should easily be a 30+ HR guy over 150+ games. (He does have 2 of the longest 10 home runs this season in the majors) He's probably not going to end up being David Ortiz but would be an inexpensive [low risk] power hitter to acquire. We need to make some move in that department, Moreland has seemingly outlived his usefulness already. (Albeit he was solid for the first couple months) I'm also on the Todd Frazier train. Devers isn't ready for the big show yet and Frazier wouldn't cost a top prospect to acquire. Frazier hasn't been great this season, but he is a power bat and might improve his numbers playing half his games at Fenway (his #s have been AWFUL at Guaranteed Rate Field this year)....not to mention he's not a liability at 3B defensively. Ideally I would like to trade for Mike Moustakas but pretty sure he won't be traded because the Royals seem to believe they are in contention.

I wouldn't say very little, as Lugo looks like a very good prospect. Just a guess but his value has to be close to Chavis.

Underwhelming return for Detroit You would think that lowers the cost for Frazier....right? How much can you compare Martinez and Frazier in terms of trade value? Sure, Martinez rates as a terrible outfielder now, but he's also running a WRC+ 59 points higher than Frazier. He's also been worth .6 more war, despite playing 24 less games and have about 100 less plate appearances. I can't see how the White Sox can expect anything close to what the Diamondbacks just got. Edit: I missed my point, which was that I think this trade doesn't impact Frazier's value at all. He's worth less than Martinez, so it may make him slightly more affordable, but I don't think by much, if at all.

Possibly in the minority, but I want no part of Robertson and his 13,000,000 salary next year. Just deal the low level prospects for Frazier and search elsewhere for bullpen help.
Plenty of better rental options, headlined by Yusmeiro Petit and Neshek.

I look at it like his big salary will lower the cost, which for a team like us makes sense. He's also proven to be able to pitch in AL East.
