You're right. I'm doing alot of box score scouting, as well as order in the draft scouting. So I might be wrong, but if one of these guys makes it I wouldn't be surprised. And now I want to take Fisher off of the list because he just gave up 5 runs for Lowell. I just don't exactly have time to travel to Salem or Greenville. I'm making predictions, and I don't expect all of these guys to make it. I said potential, and by those standards I would only predict about 1/4 of them to actually become all-stars. I will read the scouting reports. However, I saw Dakota Smith in person in lowell and he looked like the kind of guy who would be a regular #3 or #4 starter, but I know he won't be more than a Quad-A reliever. But if Lovullo can hit in the upper 200s with Salem and Portland, most of those guys will get a cup of tea in the majors. That's not really how it works. To predict 1/4 of those players to be all-stars is wildly optimistic. And scouting the box scores isn't the way to go unless you have context. Context is huge. And most of these guys will never get a cup of coffee in the majors. Again those guys are the exception, not the rule. The Red Sox have approximately 125 - 150 players in their minors. If the Red Sox get 10 of them to the majors that would be plenty and if two or three are all-stars, great. And I'm making these numbers up so the accuracy isn't there but the main point is. I removed Jerez, Dahlstrand, Goetze, Fisher, Rusconi, and Wren. Happy? I still think the red sox should push them as high in the minors as possible just in case.

Barnes, N. Ramirez, D. Jimenez, and Ockimey to NYM for Wilmer Flores? He's a free agent in 2020 but we'd probably trade him again beforehand with Travis coming up. Not sure if they'd accept, but interesting to think about. Please direct all trade proposals here: forum.soxprospects.com/board/14/trade-proposal-subforum

Reed would be an interesting get. Wonder about cost however since he's not a free agent until after 2018. But he would be a solid set up man

Sounds like Mets aren't trying to package Reed with Bruce?

He's a free agent after this season. Was looking at his baseball reference page and I guess they don't update service time during the season since it said he had only 5.001 service.

Reed and Bruce please, it just makes so much sense! I would really like our team going forward with those two. Power bat and power arm.

Reed and Bruce would put us over the cap, right? Can't see that happening if that's the case.

Reed and Bruce would put us over the cap, right? Can't see that happening if that's the case. It only takes the Mets to pay a little salary. Something that should be easily done. So this should be a non-issue.

How much are we willing to give up? They're both rentals. Bruce and Reed's contracts both end this season. That being said, they're both solid major league players. Young being thrown in to offset some of the salary helps mitigate the cost a little, but if Dombrowski gets desperate, I can see him throwing in Chavis. I think that would be a mistake. I'd rather see Travis or Ockimey with other pieces go.

How much are we willing to give up? The Phillies paid a massive amount in the two trades they did and still got very little. Reed is going to cost a decent amount, Bruce not so much. Add them together, Mets pay a little salary. Can see it costing Dalbec plus some arms. I can live with that. I assume Mets would want a bat or bats. Would really want to trade them Castillo with us paying down his salary, plus a few rule 5 arms.

Prediction: If we end up trading for Bruce and Reed with the Mets taking enough salary to keep us under a cap, 99% of the posts will be complaining that the cost was too high (with most of them saying way too high)
I'd love to be wrong, obviously...

The problem is there was a ton of good arms available. They have now all been traded besides two. So I can see the prices going up. We should have made a move sooner in my opinion.
Reed alone is going to cost more than we would like. Supply and demand is not on our side anymore. So many teams going for it.
outside of Reed and Wilson who is left?

Am I crazy or did the deal for Melky Cabrera seem light? We probably could have sent over 2 prospects not named Travis/Groome/Mata/Chavis. Wonder if they'd take Young back to even out the money too? Of course the package might had to of been slightly better there. Looks like we're in on some arms but I really hope we're looking at some bats under the radar.

Zach Britton. Plenty of starting pitching arms. There is more arms there than you give it credit for.
