In the event the Sox don't get Reed, what about going after Brad Ziegler? He's been closing games for Miami and his stats show that he is sorely due for some positive regression. He's be pretty cheap and we all saw what a great addition he was last year

Don't be Chavis... don't be Chavis 🤞 Sounds like three pitchers. So, no Chavis. It'll be interesting to see if the third pitcher is another toss-in from Dombrowski

So far Bautista and Callahan are being talked about as part of the package. I can live with that

Reed and Bruce please, it just makes so much sense! I would really like our team going forward with those two. Power bat and power arm. I have not seen mention of Bruce and what would it take to land both? We are on our third potential top notch set -up pitcher. The last time DD dipped into A ball for prospects, our farm is getting thinner all the time.

Chris is starting to rant on twitter about the package, and I don't blame him. I was a Nogosek fan and thought he could be a good piece moving forward. Reed is just a rental, but if he performs well and resigns, it is easier to swallow the prospects given up.

Not sure that Reed is going to make much of difference for the Red Sox. Sure the Red Sox are probably not as bad as they have played the last couple of weeks. However, we have also seen them shut down by mediocre pitching throughout 2017. I don't want to see them trade anyone in the top 15 for a chance to make a wild card game. This team has way too many flaws to make a deep run in the playoffs in 2017. Can you explain in any kind of detail why you believe they cannot make a deep playoff run.

It was inevitable that Callahan (or Buttrey or Maddox) would go, right? They are all Rule 5 guys, aren't they? The other two seem pretty easily spared. This feels like it does little to hurt minor league depth or even prevent other trades going forward.

Off-season, sign Reed to a multi-year contract. Trade Kimbrell, who has one year left on his contract, for a middle of the order bat.

I still think there could be a Jay Bruce deal in August once he passes through waivers inevitably too.

How much money do we have to spend after taking the rest of Reed's contract?

We still need a power hitter.

I hope they find a Moreland replacement still.

I hope they find a Moreland replacement still. Hopefully Nunez at 3B gives Hanley more starts at 1B and Devers DHing. Edit: or Nunez at 1B, of course.

So are we likely done for the day? I'd like another bat, but don't know if it's in the cards.

You laugh but he is a different player with an advanced training regimen and a toe-tap timing mechanism. He has been tearing it up in the Independent League.

Need I remind you that Papi was 40 and Ted Williams 42.....and had plenty left.
