I love our pitching staff right now for postseason Sale Pomeranz Erod Porcello Price as our Andrew Miller bullpen guy Reed in the 8th Kimbrel as the closer What is there to love about Porcello right now? I'd honestly feel more comfortable with Fister at this point.

Kinda awesome to see Farrell watching Farrell. I can't imagine what he's feeling. He should go visit the mound just for fun.

Dave O'Brien says Kimbrel warming up "is not something John Farrell wanted to do, but two walks have put him there." As if Farrell has no agency in warming up his closer with a win expectancy of 98%.

Red Sox can finish the season 5-3 and win the division even if the Yankees win all 8.

Btw, Rodriguez is looking very Cy-ish right now. When he's healthy, he's nasty. Could be a sleeper beast in the playoffs.

Great baseball moment. Father and son. A kid who has been with his Dad at ballparks for years, finally with his shot In the big leagues with dad in the opposing dugout. That mutual cap tip will be a memorable moment and one of the highlights on the season.

Fister would make it sweet with an E-Rod repeat in the finale, setting up the rotation for post season.

Rodriguez threw a great game today. His knee seems healed and he is finding a rhythm again. Perfect time.

Great game today. The pitching has been top notch. The Red Sox pitching staff has now thrown 17 consecutive shutout innings and have blanked their opponents in 43 of the last 44 innings pitched with that one inning being the grand slam that home run prone Rick Porcello gave up.
And although the Orioles and Reds have been mediocre to terrible this season, both sport pretty impressive lineups, so the Red Sox pitching staff has been stellar against some good offensive players. Hope that continues well into the post-season.
E-Rod, in my mind, has to be one of the top 4 starting pitchers. It's quite clear to me that E-Rod's performances totally correlate with his health. Before he hurt his knee, he was actually ahead of Pomeranz in the rotation. Then he hurt his knee, just like last year, and just like last year, was awful when he came back.
It takes awhile to get comfortable in his mechanics after coming back from those knee issues, and his numbers reflect it. Now he has gotten some distance from the injury and he's back to pitching the way he was before the injury.
His stuff can play up in the post-season. So at this point he's good enough to be even the #3 starter, so yup, I've flip flopped here, but I don't think I'm going to change my mind even if he does get torched next start.
I think with Fister we've seen enough evidence that if the ump isn't giving him the low strike he's in trouble or that he has a clear tendency to struggle early, which isn't something they can afford.
It also looks like they won't be able to stretch out Price, or else they'd have four lefties in the rotation? So I guess Porcello gets it because of his ability to give them innings although the HR rate is pretty terrifying.
E-Rod in the rotation also makes it more likely that Scott gets a LOOGY role in the bullpen, too, and that Fister sits out the post-season.

As I noted in the playoff roster thread, E-Rod was already the front-runner for the #3 spot in the rotation. This just put an exclamation point on it.
The Fister / Porcello decision is very much up in the air.

I think Workman has been pretty good. The Sox have 3 7th inning options. That is why this team is so good this year.

Right now, Fister looks like a better option for the #4 starter, although obviously we'll know more tomorrow. There's some irony in stating a preference for Porcello over Fister based on early struggles, the day after Porcello gave up a grand slam to the fourth batter in the game. As for the quoted concern, they'll know who'll be behind home plate in each game when the series starts, and they'll know how generous each guy is with the low strike.

Call me crazy but if it's even remotely close, which it obviously is, I'm hoping the Sox will reward the guy who's been here and will be back next year over a rent a body.

I hope to god this isn't even a remote consideration for the Red Sox. First of all there is nothing to "reward" to Rick Porcello for being awful. Secondly, who is here next year should be irrelevant. Pitch the guys who give you the best chance to win. Period.

The guy who traded Porcello once and with two years left, probably won't hesitate to trade him again if it makes the Sox better. All it takes is one team to think Porcello is worth more then the Sox do. You're right though. Play your best players and worry about players feelings after the championship parades. Could careless about Porcello's feelings to be honest.

Porcello's start before that one was good though and he is a more talented player, you give it to Porcello and its not a difficult call in my eyes.
