Seriously. If we gave Sale extra rest which resulted in us getting the WC and we proceeded to not win the WC game, people would be complaining that we shouldn’t have rested sale I agree. At what point does the rest begin and end? Seems like any decision would be arbitrary in nature.

The Astros are a better team across the board right now. Never know though, the Sox could get hot tomorrow.
I would think if they get swept again, Farrell is gone. Either that or he’s the manager for eternity.

Do you really think anyone else could have been worse?

At what point does the rest begin and end? Seems like any decision would be arbitrary in nature. You're both ignoring the fact that they weren't winning many Sale starts anyway. And you're also ignoring that he may have pitched better with more rest. Why would they be worse if he got rest? Why would they be worse if he didn't pitch the games where he got bombed?

I don't disagree, but what would be the plan / point where the team should do this?

If they were going to use Kelly and Maddox as the first two guys out of the bullpen they might as well have given Sale the last three months off.
EDIT: Or pitched him every day for two months. I don't know. Sale's August/September usage is pretty far down on my list of grievances right now.

Reddick has looked good today. His defense helps this team as well as his bat.

With no pop, this offense must hit 4-5 times to put together a mini rally

I know the game is out of hand now- but is there any reason the first three guys out of the bullpen are Kelly, Maddox, and Porcello after multiple days off and with multiple days off during the series?

If there is any team that doesn't give a s*** about those stats, it's the Red Sox. They've come back to win something like 20 games where they had a 71% chance of losing this year.

Now it's time to watch the Pats win 40-39.

They should let anybody but Altuve beat them. That guy can flat out rake. Walks intentional or not, are a preferred alternative to giving up three bombs.

Farrell is really just a terrible manager. He has to go if there's a sweep. If a legitimate reliever starts the 6th, its likely still a 3 run game against a "meh" relief corps. I am in no way a Farrell supporter but he wasnt out there throwing gopher balls. Sale wasnt exactly stellar and Houston looks every bit a 100 win team.

I'd put a 71% chance on the Red Sox signing JD Martinez this winter. I think he goes after a power bat for sure. I also think he does everything in his power to move Hanley. Maybe if they pick up most of the remaining salary they can dump him on Jeter in Miami.

the good news it this team has shown an ability to bounce back. That's all we got at this point. Throw this game out with the trash. The bad news is our Cy Young candidate left a floater in the bowl and has been trending in the wrong direction for a while.

A. the road not taken is to remove Sale after 70 pitches ... he comes back in game 4 on short rest, Pomerantz goes in game 5 on regular rest.
B. a tired Sale or was it a Stale Sale?
