Well, I'll root for the Sox to make one more improbable comeback in a season full of them, but frankly, in a just universe, it would be the Astros and Indians in the ALCS. The only thing that would really kill me is if the Yankees screw that up.

The Yankees are right with us in terms of hopelessness.
I think it was wishful thinking saying that this Sox team isn’t like last year’s. It’s eerily similar. We limped into the playoffs. Both teams were shells of the teams that put them in the playoff picture. When you’re playing your worst baseball at the end of the year, you’re asking for trouble.
The big concern for me is that when we were at the ASB, we we all thought we were due for upward ‘regression’ to the mean. Turned out that we were probably actually performing true to talent level, because we only got worse. They need a JDM desparately next year. Ortiz left a giant hole, and our attempt with filling it with Hanley (who granted may be one of the more overrated bats of this era) really didn’t come close to cutting it.
A lot went wrong this year and this team still won the division. Could be worse, even if we fell apart at the wrong time.

I think that the road trip distorted expectations a bit - we were playing the dregs and winning...but found that at home even the dregs were hard to beat (the dregs had more power - Toronto) - and the Houston series at home was probably the real indicator. Long season, tired arms, nagging or worse injuries. All take their toll.

Injuries have had a significant effect on this team. If Nunez was healthy and performing like he did before he was hurt, there would have been a dynamic in the lineup that clearly now is lacking. Then there are the injuries to Pedroia, Bogaerts and Hanley that reduced their productions substantially. Betts also had some dings late in the season that may have affected his hitting.

Our two best pitchers got shelled. That is nothing Nuñez or even JD Martinez would've fixed.
Houston is a really really good team and there is no shame in losing to them. When was the last time we played a 101 win team in the playoffs? 2004?

I just about lost all interest in this team a few weeks ago. Normally I try to be more positive. I really thought the team would be better. Too many players operating under their talent level.
Not sure what else to say except that I'm very glad the Celtics are playing again.

Great idea to go with the guy that sucks on the first inning, on what should be a short outing in a do or die game.

We are all frustrated, but the Astros are just killing the ball. There isn't much you can do about it. They won 93 games and won the division. I could see if they won 80 and finished in 3rd, but his statement isn't fair to the guys and the effort they put in for 162 games.

I just am sick of reading about it and I am gonna call it out this time, sorry that is the case.

I normally find myself looking forward to watching the games or at least having them on in the background. That just hasn't happened for me recently. I know it's an unfair position cause it's not because of a lack of effort or anything. And yeah I know the Astros are really, really good. There's not much you can do when the 2nd best pitcher in the AL gets knocked out with 7 ER. I wouldn't want anyone but Sale in that game. Edit: I'd also just like to say that I've been a pretty big defender of this team all year, and it's just too bad they stubbed their toe heading into the playoffs.

No one wants to hit. No one. Lucky that the Sox even got a soft single through the infield that inning.
