Thanks. Does anyone have other informative videos like this, that suggest what he would be like as a manager? I'm surprised I can find so few, given his work as a analyst. This one is pretty good and one I totally agree with: Thanks, that vid about Utley's slide is good but it's the only one I know like that

Hinch that basically said the same thing except from a working with him view. It's also notable that Hinch called DD to personally recommend him for the job.

I haven't seen the first thing about a possible bench coach connection with Cora but looking at his bio he played under Jim Riggleman, Jerry Manual, Ron Washington, Eric Wedge, Jom Tracy and Davy Johnson. I know Washington is still in the game and could be an experienced bench coach but does anyone know about the others? I just did a quick BR search and they only had managers for each year.

Hinch that basically said the same thing except from a working with him view. It's also notable that Hinch called DD to personally recommend him for the job. Thanks, that's great, lots of info there. "So why is every club without a manager suddenly so interested in the former infielder? The answer seems to be a mix of his abilities to apply advanced analytics and relate to players. [...] A scout for a rival club described the Astros organization as one that is very forward-thinking and heavily reliant on data and technology, more so than many other teams. Cora recevied a crash course in advanced analytics, working in Houston's system this season, and the scout lauded his ability to quickly digest and apply the information. However, it goes beyond just fancy stats. What has impressed people in the industry is his desire to continually learn more and seek out new information." Here is one article with a good paragraph by Hinch www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21024060/alex-cora-bench-coach-houston-astros-interview-boston-red-sox

Note that Cora has also been the GM of a Puerto Rico winter league team for several years now. And of lesser import, he was the GM of PR's WBC team.

One huge plus I can see with Cora is being more relatable for the young core of the team, having a lot of upbeat energy that matches that core, as well as being able to communicate in Spanish at times to make a greater connection to the players. I don't have a sense of his strategy acumen, but the connection piece really does matter as well. One of the major reasons I believe Alex Cora is the best candidate is the reasoning of him having a (much) better chance of getting our young players to maximize their potential. And this especially goes for Bogie. I think Xander would be much more comfortable with Cora talking with him than a guy like Farrell. I understand Xander and Bennitendi are very hard on themselves when they don't produce. Cora probably will be more understanding as an ex-positional player than JF. I bet he would bring out the best in fellow Latin players like Rodriguez, Vasquez, Devers, and maybe Castillo and Hanley. As young as he is, being bi-lingual, and being an excellent communicator just adds up to him being the best candidate for this demanding job. This is such a young team. They don't need someone like Gardy. Ausmus may be a good one, but I believe Cora will get more out of this team than any other!

I'm not too sure about Alex Cora (popular choice from soxprospect posters) due to whom he'll bring on as Red Sox coaching staffs if he's hired by DD. Does DD asking in every candidate during the interview for whom will be pitching, hitting, the bench coaches? That's key positions for make the Red Sox successful in transaction from John Farrell's coaching staffs.
This team needs to improve from bad base runner outs, lifting up from powerless & off year lineup starters & starter staffs from frequency first inning problems. I don't want to see Alex to bring on entire Baseball classic PR staffs and/or winter PR staffs on the Red Sox team. I think Ron Gardenshire isn't fit with this RS team either. If he's come back sick anytime then he won't be fire for being lousy manager. Sickness always saved somebody job over being fired in coldness by GM. The pressure will be too high for him in Boston unlike from Minnesota.

In addition to what others have written, Cora had/has an excellent relationship with the Boston press who always appreciated that he was available after each game by his locker when he played here, he comes in as a known quantity who will get a little less initial pushback. I hate the Boston press and I don't think the other possible candidates would get this kind of patience from them, especially Ausmus because of his on the record comment last month before he got fired

“@enrique_Rojas1: Alex Cora fue entrevistado hoy por #Mets. “Fue encuentro muy provechoso”, dijo una fuente.” "It was a fruitful meeting." Literally. Cora arrived to Mets' offices where he was presented with a vast array of fruit baskets, many containing fruits native to his home in Puerto Rico.

Wishing vegan on the Mets is inhumane. ADD: I do want to say that I am a veggie spin off guy. Cows, pigs and chickens eat grass and grains. I eat cows, pigs & chickens to help offset the carnage to innocent plants.

While Cora seems to be an impressive person, an important aspect is that he is a minority. There were too many stories last year connecting the Red Sox with either past or present rascism for the Red Sox owners to be comfortable. In a perfect world, the Sox will hire the best candidate and if that candidate happens to be a man of color all the better. It would be a sad day if Cora was viewed as the best of the candidates who happened to be minority. Theo was never viewed as the best Jewish GM but instead, a great GM who happened to be Jewish.

Alex Cora seems to be smart, energetic, and an excellent communicator. But on the other hand, I do enjoy yelling TOOTBLAN and the current Red Sox roster seems all too willing to oblige, so maybe Gardenhire is the best fit. It's a real tossup.

Since there is no poll that I see... I will vote here for Cora. I'm sure somebody posted this story someplace here before, but I'm at work and I can't read through the whole thread to find out. www.elnuevodia.com/deportes/beisbol/nota/alexcoratieneunpieenboston-2366325/"There is a 99.9 percent chance of [Cora] being named Red Sox leader,” a source told Puerto Rico’s El Nuevo Dia. “They want him for the job. That post is for him. Alex is very beloved there. And he would love to run Boston. They want to make the fast decision.”

I would be very happy if this report ends up being true. Alex Cora was my number one hope for manager as I think his experience with the Astros could definitely translate well to dealing with this current Sox team.

At the very least, it would be great to have a manager who is fluent in both English and Spanish, given the constitution of rosters these days. In fact, I am shocked (shocked I say!) that certain pedantic reporters who lecture in their pieces about the next manager "must" be of "X" ethnicity etc. haven't taken it upon themselves to learn Spanish, since a large percentage of the players they report on speak it, many exclusively. Shocked.
In fact, if I was a young reporter looking to break into a baseball beat I would make sure I've taken enough Spanish to be easily conversant. It's a differentiator in the marketplace that can only help you get a job.

Yeap, it makes it a lot easier to communicate with Devers who can't speak English at all really.
