Uggh.. I'd rather see McCullers get the start. At least he could possibly give them 4 tough innings. Rather see it at the beginning of the game than in the middle of the game with Houston down. Morton has pitched poorly thus far in the post-season and I would think it would probably continue. I would anticipate about 5 good innings (2 runs) from Sabathia and then a bullpen battle, and the Astros pen is lousy and their manager wasted Giles for 23 pitches with his team up 6. I hope to hell the Astros have their hitting shoes on tonight as they're going to need it. I'll bet this will be bullpen by committee. Morton goes 4 even if he manages to keep Yanks scoreless...then change the oil

The best example of Yankee bias I am aware of is the strike zone of Roger Clemens as a Yankee. However Sabathia may eclipse that. Generally the bias is a matter of very close calls at key spots. With Sabathia it's absurd. This also causes the batter to expand his strike zone. Pettitte is another prime example.

Watching the playoffs reminds me that there are so many bad managers out there, but in the end it's been the talent that wins out. We all give Farrell a ton of grief, but my goodness there have been tons of really questionable moves by almost every manager so far, including the ones that have been winning. Just a reminder that in the end it's the players that will win or lose, not the managers.

All of us (including me) are reflexively giving the MFY the advantage in tonight's pitching matchup, but we might be wrong.
fWAR - Morton, 3.3; CCS, 1.9 fERA--Morton, 86; CCS, 84 (lower is better) WHIP - Morton, 1.19; CCS, 1.27 FIP - Morton, 3.46; CCS, 4.49 K/9 - Morton, 10; CCS, 7.3 BB/9 - Morton, 3.1, CCS, 3
Our guy (for tonight, at least!) gets the big edge in WAR, FIP and K/9. They're basically tied in everything else.

In most cases I’d agree. But in game 7 1975 WS, facing one of the scariest all time Reds lineups, JIm Wiloughby had them looking silly with his good sinker and was a former starting pitcher who could go 4 innings. These were smaller bullpens and Darell Johnson pinch hit for him after only one inning with a 1 for 19 Cecil Cooper with 2 outs, nobody on base, bringing in a rookie JIm Burton who blew the game next inning. 1986 too when the Sox manager let Bill Buckner hit with bases loaded against a lefty reliever- with Don Baylor on the bench- and Stapleton as a defensive replacement ready, just so he could “end with the same nine” he started with. Then there was 2003 decision not to pull Pedro. It been alluded to that- despite the Sox having three fine mid-nineties throwing relievers in that pen he had less options than were publicly known. Anyone have any further insight on that? I do recall that with the entire Yankee stadium yelling “who’s your daddy” at Pedro it was the loudest I’d ever heard a ballpark, and a frightful spot for any reliever to enter.
So while for the most part it’s the players, in extremely close 7 game series with an over the top idiotic decision, the manager can be a game changer.

Thanks for reminding me and making me sick. Then there’s back in 1946 and letting Gailhouse start. You remember that don’t you?

I think you guys need to do what i do: DON'T WATCH.(HAHA>Just a friendly suggestion) I admit it, i can't watch the NYY play in the playoffs, especially when the Sox get eliminated. This is looking like the 2nd WS in my lifetime that i WON'T be watching. I HATE the Dodgers too. Anyone have a guess what WS i didn't watch? (Obviously it was one the NYY were in) I respect the Dodgers organization a ton. They have produced consistently the best pitching in the sport for decades. Orel Hershiser Fernando Venezuela Sandy Kofax Don Sutton Clayton Kershaw Pedro Martinez (didn't stick with the dodgers, but came up as a Dodger) Heck they even Hideo Nomo and Ramon Martinez were great pitchers back in the day too for them. I would bleed Dodger blue if they were to face the Yankees. #anythingbuttheyankees I wouldn't go as far as bleeding Dodger Blue, but yeah, #ANYTHINGBUTHEYANKEES

I have no idea how the 88 Dodgers won other than 1 dominating pitcher and 1 key AB. No, but a good guess. I was to young & dumb not to watch in 1977/78 & 1981, but i learned my lesson. It was the 2000 WS when those 2 NY teams played each other. I REFUSED to watch. I figured if i didn't watch it, then it didn't happen>LOL

Thanks for reminding me and making me sick. Then there’s back in 1946 and letting Gailhouse start. You remember that don’t you? It was 1948 when Denny Galehouse pitched in the tie breaker game with Cleveland and got pasted, not 1946. Galehouse was not on the 46 team. Game 7 of the 46 World Series was pitched by Boo Ferriss.

Lol first pitch by Sabathia was a ball that was called a strike 3 inches off the plate.

Lol first pitch by Sabathia was a ball that was called a strike 3 inches off the plate. To be fair, Morton has gotten some ridiculous pitches called in his favor as well. See, I am not biased. This ump is pretty mediocre but doesn't seem to be favoring one team.

Morton with 36 pitches after 4 innings. He should be able to comfortably pitch 12 innings tonight if he keeps it up.

Not at all on topic but all I can think about is how amazing it'd be to see Mookie take a meaningful postseason at bat. Some day

That play by Bregman to throw Bird out at the plate could be one that they’re playing 30 years from now.
