I am going way out on a limb here in trying to find a silver lining to the injury tonight. If the C's were not really ready to compete with Lebron and the other elite teams for another yr or so then the young guys will get that many more minutes W/O a lot of pressure. So in the future the young guys are more battle tested when GH comes back. Yeah I know its a stretch but its all I Got. The silver lining is that Jaylen and Tatum will get extra PT, which could accelerate their development. Really liking what we’ve seen from them, going back to the SL. After that...

LOL I really thought that last 3 went inning. The Irving shot at the buzzer? Glad I wasn't the only idiot who thought that!

Isn't that what I said? The C's will be that much better next year with the maturation of Brown, Tatum and who knows who else. GH could possibly be back by the end of this season. I dislocated my ankle and was alone when it happened, had to jam it back in place myself. Not much fun but I was walking on it without crutches in 6 weeks, it hurt but I was doing pretty good after 3 months. With all the treatment GH will get for rehab he could be practicing sometime in Feb. Then again it could obviously be worse with the break and all. I am hopeful he is back come March. Obviously a huge setback for the teams goals this year but it might not be as bad as it looked with his ankle going the wrong way. Hopefully it just looked worse than it is.

Hopefully Hayward comes back fully...and hopefully it's late this season. But when I saw what appeared to be a totally snapped tibia and fibula, I wondered if he can be the same player.
Is there a doctor in the house? What would be realistic time parameters for recovery? Where's Telson?

The Irving shot at the buzzer? Glad I wasn't the only idiot who thought that! Yeah lol I even jumped out of the couch. Even as Lebron was hugging Kyrie I thought "well Lebron really matured being able to celebrate a tough shot by an opponent". It took me a while to notice what was happening which was mildly embarrassing.

A dislocated ankle will heal so it all comes down to the tibia. A fracture could vary a lot but the chances are decent it's not real bad. The whole thing looked career threatening but with some luck he could be back this year.

Welp... the first 5mins 15 seconds was fun. I really liked the look of the team. Then I got scared that the entire future of the Celtics was off track, if this is a career altering injury. The early reports seem to be encouraging, but I'm trying to not get ahead of it. If there truly is no ligament damage and it's a clean fracture then that's insanely amazing after what it looked like.

Man that would be honestly a miracle if it's possible. All the team needs to do is stay alive in a weak East to have a shot this season. I legit believe they can take down the Cavs if Hayward is healthy.

To me the best things about him coming back this year would be: 1. the injury isn't as serious as we fear 2. Next year he should be at full(ish) strength instead of it being a rehab year.

I know it is hard to believe after seeing the injury that he should make a full recovery and come back sooner than you would think, but I think he will. Of course I don't really know what I am talking about beyond my own experience. You guys mention reading something about the injury update, where? I haven't been able to find anything.

I'm clinging to that 4 months timetable, I feel like I've been through the Kübler-Ross model already and I'm back to denial.

Even if he comes back, he won't be Gordon Hayward. They should shut him down for the year and let him focus on healing and rehabbing.
Just blows that we have to watch yet another inevitable Cavs and Golden State Warriors rematch and hope both teams find a way to lose in some way.

I didn't know ankle injuries changed who you were. Can he still identify as Gordon Hayward?

But if we're going to take that statement practically and realize the player that Gordon Hayward is, he won't be back this year.

Has anyone ever said that the refs or umpires decided to hand a game to Boston?
Please.

Has anyone ever said that the refs or umpires decided to hand a game to Boston? Please. Well, to be fair, that's exactly what the majority of Jets fans are saying after Sunday's game.

Has anyone ever said that the refs or umpires decided to hand a game to Boston? Please. It’s a hyperbole. You seem fun, though.

Honestly, all the sting has been taken out of the sails for this season for me. I'll watch casually this year, catch maybe half the games (if I remember that the game is on, unlike I did tonight) but the Lakers record is all I care about until the end of the year and see where the ping pong balls land.
I'll keep tabs on seeing Tatum, Brown, Smart, Rozier, and even Irving's stats. Beyond that, it is what it is this year.

Listen, we knew with so many new parts (4 returning players!!!! 4)this years team was going to take time to gel. Then you take out their 1a star 5 mins into the game on the road against LeBrons Cavs and have to play your second game the next friggin night against a quality up and coming team with a super star that's all rested being 0-2 is very understandable. They were in both games, showed a lot of fight and a lot of promise.... oh and they are without Morris who's a much better player than people realize from a team perspective. If he's on LeBron at the end of the game opening night, that may be a Celtics W.
I'm still very excited about this squad. We were likely never winning a title this year with Hayward, and that still holds true now. This is still an exciting team to watch and the playing time and roles that Brown and Tatum are going to fill will be HUGE for us long term. In a weird, backwards messed up way, Haywards injury provides an opportunity for the Celtics to get to Championship caliber sooner.... maybe

Early returns:
Brown - looks confident and aggressive. Still has his young player moments but he's starting to get the calls going to the basket that he didn't get last year. Very encouraged by him so far. Danny is looking good by selecting him.
Tatum - another guy making Danny look great. He's clearly not asserting himself and still feeling his way thru things as evidenced by 7 shots in 36 minutes but my god is he smooth and he can rebound the basketball. He doesn't take the ball to the hoop like a rookie - made that mistake once then adjusted.
Baynes - love this guy. Too bad he's not younger... he's pretty much what last years team really needed.
Rebounding - although we've been out rebounded the first two games - it hasn't been by much and there haven't been any of those stretches where you go mad while watching the other team consistently getting 3rd and 4th shots. They are longer at every spot and it shows.

I just wish Stevens could get Smart to realize he should only be taking around 10 shots/game max. he is not earning the big pay day he is hoping for.

Like many Celtics fans, before the year I thought this team had a good chance at beating the Cavs. I loved how the roster was built and thought with the increased talent and versatility they could really take the next step. The previous few teams probably outperformed their talent level, but I didn't see any reason why this team wouldn't do that as well. It was only the preseason, but the ball movement and spacing was fun to see and I think most national pundits underrated how good that would make the team.
Unfortunately I think Hayward was the biggest part of that, and perhaps arguably the most important player. He is good at everything, can space the floor, has the size and quickness to guard multiple positions, he can run the offense as well as play off the ball, and most importantly an additional high usage scorer. Good news is it sounds like he'll come back almost completely back to the level he was at before by next season at the latest. Bad news is I really wanted to see what this team could do this year, and we only got 5 minutes of it.
Again as some have said, this does give more time and shots to the young guys, and if we're honest the best way to compete with the Warriors is for those guys to turn into studs pretty quickly. Hopefully this will help expedite that process. I love what I've seen from Brown, Tatum, and Rozier so far, and Smart in flashes. Despite the 0-2 start, I'm pretty happy with things outside of the injury.
