Ok, now I'm starting to get nervous. Now I almost want them to use one of the 4th rounders they gained and trade up and pick one of those defensive players.

Hard to like the Dawson pick with their track record drafting 2nd rounders in the secondary, and given his ceiling. Seems like they just had a man crush on him so they panicked to moved up to take him.

Seems like they just had a man crush on him so they panicked to moved up to take him. They have made some bad picks in the 2nd round, but I really like this pick. Wasn't crazy about the trade up with Oliver and Davis still on the board, but I'd rather that than some of the massive reaches in the past or more trading down. So far three good players, all taken right around where they were ranked. All three fit a need. Now if we can just get a QB, LB, DE and S. Okay I'll settle for a couple of those, put this is a really good start.

I like his combination of size and speed. Should be good against the run as well as being a physical in coverage.
As for not adding to the front 7 maybe they have something up their sleeve in regards to picking someone up or they are actually happy with what they have. Maybe they are confident in what Rivers brings this year. LB certainly seems like a need.

Remember they added a lot to their front 7 just by guys returning from injury plus the additions of Shelton and Clayborne. And the second year jump from Wise.

I want the Pats to grab Shaquem Griffin!
He is a Patriot.
But I wouldn't mind if they grabbed Lauletta either. There is a few really good Qbs left.

I guess Lauletta will be the guy? If not him perhaps White?
I know next to nothing about football drafting strategies except for what the talking heads say and the well informed opinions on this forum.
I'm concerned because it sounds like the Pats drafted a guard with a lesser wingspan that they're trying to make a left tackle, a running back with potential knee issues, and a small cornerback that might be better off as a safety.
They haven't addressed the front 7, which killed them in the SB allowing Foles do whatever he pleased, and they passed on the top rated QBs - they could have gotten Jackson (and they could have traded up a little to get Evans before he was snatched away.)
I could be totally wrong (usually am and hope to be) but so far I don't see a better team on the field for next season than the one who couldn't stop Philly in the superbowl.

Players left I really like;
QB Kyle Lauletta, Luke Falk, Mike White, then there are 3-4 more late round guys
RB Josh Adams
WR Equanimeous St. Brown, you want a high upside WR?
TE Ian Thomas and Durham Smythe
LB Josey Jewell, Genard Avery, and Christian Sam
DE Duke Ejiofor and Josh Sweat
S Kyzir White, Armani Watts and DeShon Elliott.

And Lauletta has been selected by the Giants, so now the Patriots are getting ??
If Brady gets injured next season this team is totally screwed, and I still have no idea who is going to be the guy they groom to replace Brady.
They had a lot of options and so far have gone with none of them.

I get the feeling if they even want a QB, he's a very low rated guy. There are a bunch in this draft.

The Pac 10 career passing leader in yards and tds is still on the board.

There’s your linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley Not really we needed a coverage LBer and he's an old school ILB run stuffer, just like Roberts.

This Bentley kid already looks like a steal. Reportedly ran mid 4.6 at his pro day. Played at 255 lbs. Seems really intelligent from the interviews on YouTube.

I think he's right too. Myles Jack looks awesome when he's breaking up passes while covering tight ends. Pat Chung looks like, well, a safety. No one highlights Jack getting swallowed up by tight ends on running plays. But that's the cost of playing "coverage backers"
