5 year 137 million dollar deal for Jimmy G.
Wow. That's a ton for a guy with limited games under his belt.

Biggest contract in NFL history based on what we'd call AAV in MLB.

5 year 137 million dollar deal for Jimmy G. Wow. That's a ton for a guy with limited games under his belt. Well,- he was the first guy to shred apart the Jaguars defense with a bunch of limited receiving options mostly rookies Edit: I don't have the numbers for the Patriots game but Ramsey gave up 24 completions for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns, and boy they gave up 11 completions for a hundred and forty seven and one touchdown against the Steelers in the playoffs. Maybe Jimmy G gave guys the blueprint to hush up the Jags D

As an aside, I have to say, I'm glad that hack Ron Borges got exposed for the plagiarizing liar/cheap shot artist he is.
The guy has had in it for the Patriots for year. He's a miserable piece of work.
Some guy starting texting Borges pretending that he was Don Yee and that Brady, seeing that Jimmy G got his big bundle of cash, was going to hold out or something like that....so Borges ran with the story and it was on the front page of the Boston Herald.
When asked if he had multiple sources Borges lied and indicated he had when the fact of the matter was that it was some random guy trying to trick him.
In the need to be relevant Borges went with a phony story without any real verification whatsoever.
That is what's wrong with the state of journalism/newspapers today.
I'm not a big fan of "fake news" as I do believe most of these guys/ladies try to get it right, but the rush to be controversial, sell papers, etc....getting the story right seems to be a priority that's way down on the list.
Anyways I'm glad a miserable hack like Borges got exposed.
He should have known better - Tom Brady is a classy man who has never been all about the money. Tom Brady has always been all about the winning.
It's too bad Brady has to deal with fools like Borges and Alex Reimer.

I don’t want to quote that entire post but I’m mostly with you. I’ll add a couple things though.
I think Borges should be fired and anyone who hires him is an idiot. There are enough people out there who write about sports and who want to that would love his job. As mentioned, this isn’t his first or even second time. He’s a disgrace to his profession and until the heads of these news outlets start taking strong stands the “fake news” and sloppy journalism won’t stop. In fact, it will get worse because there are no real consequences.
Where I differ from you is I no longer believe the majority of people are trying to do or get things right. I think they are trying to survive in their profession which has now been set up to require them to be shoddy journalists and not take the proper time to vet things and they have no backbone to walk away or hold a story that they think may be true but don’t have the evidence for it so they’d prefer to throw it against the wall and play the percentages hoping it sticks. A lot of them the plain flat out make stuff up citing “sources close to” or “sources with knowledge”. It’s a bunch of crap. It happens a lot in real news; and i promise you it happens even more in sports news where the consequences don’t really mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And until the Ron Borges of he world get fired, nothing will change.
If he doesn’t, then I will do my best to never read the publication he works for or listen to any stations who put him on the air. There’s a reason i do that with ESPN already.

I agree with both of you guys on everything you said and I will add to that my opinion that this is a very very big problem in our country today. Without becoming overtly political here. In sports it is fake news but it isn't as much about being fake rather than it is the desire to break the news first, leading to inaccuracy. Yes you could say their is some fake news out there as some do have an agenda but that is the exception not the rule. It is in the real world of bending public opinion on things that matter, it is our political parties creating doubt and alternative facts to cloud the truth. SPIN!! How can things be spun, how they get out in front of issues to make people doubt the truth when it comes out. What is the truth. It pains me greatly to see our country torn apart and divided based on the manipulation of information. It actually takes time to research things and find out what the facts are and people are not willing to put in the time. Many don't want the truth they just want to have what they believe reinforced. It is sad and I don't see a solution coming anytime soon so it will get worse and we will all pay.

There’s a reason i do that with ESPN already. I can't say that you're wrong. I like to think people have the intent to do things on the up-and-up but it's almost like the world is so damn different these days. It's like reality TV run amok. It's all about ratings and eye appeal, not nuance and truth, so perhaps you are correct - that the way the system is now rigged accuracy and nuance take a back seat to ratings and grabbing attention, and journalists are set up to fail. I do believe in Borges case, though, that he is lazy and inept (like a lot of his opinions). He's a miserable guy who doesn't seem to really like sports, and there are a lot of guys like that. I don't expect a journalist to kiss an athlete's butt, but somewhere there should be an appreciation that without that athlete to write about, he (or she) wouldn't have the job they have. And a lot of times I'm noticing more and more how little journals truly enjoy sports. There are some you read where you can see that joy. I like reading Chad Finn for instance. It's obvious he enjoys sports.

So who do you guys like at QB? It seems like a very deep draft class. Currently 5 players are projected to be first round picks in Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Jackson and Allen. Do any of them drop to our pick? Would we or should we go after one if he is there? If I had to guess Allen and Jackson are the guys that might drop, then again with how well recently drafted QBs have done, it wouldn't surprise me if none of them dropped this year. Heck one Mock has 6 QBs going in first round, but free agency should change that. Call me crazy but I love Jackson and while he doesn't seem like a fit, I'd draft him if he fell to our pick. I have no idea about Allen, he has everything but production, so he is crazy risky.
The next tier is Rudolph, Falk, then it gets confusing, but I like Ferguson and Lauletta. I like Rudolph, but I love Falk. Falk was a walk on that started for 4 years and leads all the major QBs in yards and TDs. He is higly accurate, but has very little pocket mobility, and good but not great arm strength. Rudolph is much more mobile, but there are questions if he is a system QB. He was surrounded by great talent, but put up the second most yards and TDs among the top 7 QBs. Opinions on these two are highly mixed with some thinking they are first round talents and others thinking 4th round pick or later.

Lauletta is the guy most connected to the Patriots, if the Patriots draft a QB, I think he's it.

Him being connected to the Pats has raised his profile and I think he gets overdrafted frankly. Nevermind all the connections are just made up, as far as I know there aren't any connections where the Patriots actually showed interest yet. More like he's the perfect fit because he has a lacrosse connection and Bill loves his lacrosse players. We'll have to wait and see if the Patriots actually show real interest in him. Scouts opinions on him are greatly divided. Some really like him, others think he's a 6th or 7th round pick.

Yeah, there's a part of me that would like to see the Patriots use a high pick to draft the next QB of the future, but there's another part of me that wants to load up while Brady is still kicking around.
It's a tough decision. I wouldn't know who to pick. It's honestly a crapshoot. There is a lot of luck in finding the perfect franchise QB. The Browns haven't had luck in almost 2 or 3 decades now, for example.

It is a tough decision, but we need a QB for the long-term and I want Bill drafting him and that QB learning under Brady. Overall the Patriots have been very good at getting QBs like Brady, Jimmy, Cassel, Hoyer, heck even Mallet is still a backup QB in this league. So if Bill can find a QB that he think deserves to be taken in round one or two I want him taking him.
The Browns are a mess, they destroy QBs instead of developing them. Example is Kizer last year. In my 25 years as a Notre Dame die-hard fan Kizer is the most talented QB they have had. He has a ton of arm talent, can make a ton of plays with his feet and could carry that team. Thing is he wasn't ready for the NFL. He would always try to do to much and commit turnovers. His first year with great weapons he was awesome, his second year with inexperienced receivers and tight ends he forced things. He needed a year to get back to his old ways. So the Browns start him day one, then bench him, then start him. All on a team that had no good WRs and a crap offensive line. They might have destroyed his confidence for good. Goff and Wentz wouldn't have looked good on the Browns. There teams invested in OL and weapons so those guys could do well. One expert thought they should go Barkley RB and Nelson guard with there top two picks. It might not be a bad idea. They need a ton of talent on offense before any QB will be able to do well for the Browns.

Bill has picked at least 6 bad QBs in the Tom Brady era and has picked 2 great ones. That's better than most teams, but it's still a crapshoot even with Bill picking the QB.

Bill has drafted 9 QBs with the Patriots and kept one undrafted guy in Hoyer.
Great Brady in 6th round, Garoppolo in late 2nd round.
Good Cassel in 7th round and Hoyer as an undrafted guy.
OK types in Brissett 3rd round and Mallett 3rd round.
Bad picks O'Connell 3rd round, Davey 4th round, Kingsbury 6th round and Robinson 7th round.
Bill hit on two QBs in 18 years and the highest pick was a late second rounder. That has to be the most impressive part, he hasn't spent endless high picks like most teams. We didn't have the need, but he has found talent where most teams struggle to find QBs. Garoppolo was the first guy he picked as a future starter and look at him. The rest of those guys were drafted to be backups, because they liked them or because it was good value. For example wasn't O'Connell a guy McDaniels loved and wanted? So I want Bill making the picks, start now, so if they get a dud, he can get another guy.
I wouldn't fully disagree with calling Brissett and Mallett bad overall, if the bar is can start and help you win. I just look at Brissett as an insurance policy while Brady was out and he looks like he'll stick around in the league for a while. Mallett served as a backup and didn't we get a late round pick for him? Still in the league as a backup. Overall they seem to be better than your average 3rd rounders, heck they have/most likely will outlast some first round picks.

Yeah Hoyer and Cassel were good finds considering one was undrafted and the other was a starter for a good amount of time.
Still Brisset and Mallet are backups only in this league. You're not winning with them. You aren't going to win with Cassel or Hoyer.
If you draft a QB, you're going to need the franchise type of QB. If not, there's always free agency which could give you a more proven QB if you're willing to pay the freight on a Cousins type (for example).
I almost would rather do that (if you have good talent everywhere but QB) or blow it up after Brady is done. Having this good of a team for this long isn't supposed to happen with the cap in place and that's really the reality. Once Brady is gone, I'll probably barely tune into football to be honest, it won't be as good or interesting to me at least.

Still is crazy that Jimmy G. got that deal to be honest (now that we are reflecting on past QBs).
I'd rather use the franchise tag on him maybe once or twice before giving him the largest deal in NFL history. Maybe your wrong and he's not as good as you think he is (and I'm talking to San Fransisco here). Sure it's nice to covet a player and value him in a high way, but at least let him prove himself for a full season, you know?
I don't know, he looks good and all at the position, but I'm glad the Patriots weren't forced to give unproven Jimmy G. that kind of deal yet. Plus, paying a QB that much takes away from other positions (another reason why Brady is so important, he takes less to stay here).

Allen is the best QB in the draft. Prior to the combine, I had hope he would fall but that’s not happening now.

Allen seems to have everything you want but production. I don't worry a ton about the yards or TDs, but the completion percentage of 56% for his only two years worrys. Never seen him play, so I have no clue about the offense. Maybe it's heavily designed towards low percentage downfield passes. I can't think of another player like him. A guy talked about as the number one pick, that has had his level of production. I was also thinking he could drop, but everyone loved his combine. He reminds me of a better Kyle Boller, a guy who's great combine made people overlook his college stats. Didn't he throw it 70 yards from his knees? Everyone keeps talking about Allen throwing it 70 yards. Very interested in how he does, because frankly I don't care about how guys look at the combine throwing with no pressure or pads.
If I was picking at the top of the draft I take Darnold over Allen, but I'm no scout.

The biggest question mark overall is left tackle and Solder. The one thing you can't do is have a bad LT with an old Brady. Solder as the top tackle available most likely gets a crazy offer. Do you resign Flemming and draft an OT? That gives you Cannon, Flemming, Garcia who should now be healthy, draft pick and a depth guy.

He was having a good camp and was going to lineup perfectly to replace Solder with a year as a backup gaining weight and learning the system. Now he needs to spend this year gaining that strength so it’s really not a good spot. Maybe Solder will take less to be here since the hospitals are so good for his son...

I don't get the Cooks trade rumors. One of them had us trading him for a mid to late second round pick. I just don't see how that makes sense.

I don't get the Cooks trade rumors. One of them had us trading him for a mid to late second round pick. I just don't see how that makes sense. Opens cap space to sign Solder and if you aren’t going to resign Cooks then you get a high to mid second. It makes sense in that regard even if you want to argue they can resign Solder without that space. They can but then what money do you have for the defense?
