According to Neverett, Betts tied Ted for most 3 HR games - three as a RS.

Great Job Eric. Add Mookie to the list. How many did it against three different pitchers? Coming up ... This guy, by the way, is not jinxable. It's pretty remarkable for a guy who doesn't hit a ton of HR to have 3 different 3 HR games in about 3.5 seasons. And he's the 3rd player in history to have 3 3 HR games before age 26.

Mookie OPS for the game 5.000 with a .000 BABIP lmao His batting average went from .353 to .389 without his BABIP going up. Can't wait to see how many fWAR he gets for this game. I'm going to guess about 0.5.

I did the research before the HR because he's Mookie. Ralph Kiner and Chris Young hit their trio of homers off of three different pitchers. So Mookie is the 3rd guy in history to have a perfect day with 3 HR off of 3 different pitchers, and 2 BB, none intentional. The all HR and BB criterion is not random (as in, did it on a Thursday!) because it means you had 5 legit PA, the ball left the park every time you got a chance to hit it, and you never made an out. I just have to check to see of anyone has 4 HR, all off different pitchers, plus a BB or HBP. Ben Chapman and Cliff Johnson had 3 HR, BB, HBP games, but not off three different pitchers.

Damn it Holt. You just robbed Mookie of a chance to hit 4 HRs in a game!

Love the way the Sox are taking it to teams.
NY and LAA are two strong teams and the Sox had immediate statement games against them thrashing NY 14-1 and now LAA 10-1 if the score holds. I mean Cora was pulling guys out after 5 innings.
This could be the Sox team that wins 100 games which hasn't happened since 1946. Long way to go, but this team has the goods.

He's the only other guy to reach base 5 times without being retired (no IBB) while homering in every AB, and off of three different pitchers.

Are you a sql wiz using Lahman's db? Actually, I don't even know if that has every game.

Are you a sql wiz using Lahman's db? B-Ref's Play Index. Super easy. You can click on a link for the game in question and quickly check things like who the homers were hit off. BTW, Andres Galarraga is the one guy who accomplished the feat with one of his two BB's being intentional.

Mookie is having quite a start to what could very well be his MVP campaign.

Mookie now at .389 / .493 / .796 ... despite bad BABIP luck! His wRC+ goes from 189 (10th in MLB) to 246 (almost certainly 1st).

Mookie's OPS vs. LAA went from .661 to .750 in one game. (108 PAs)

Yeah I mean, I don't think any Red Sox fan has ever seen this or will see this ever again. This team is just destroying teams, soul crushing them. This is the best start to *any* MLB team since the 2003 Giants.

They were 19-2 until we beat them twice in a row, whereupon they then went on a 16-1 run. That team was crazy good. About every three of four years I look at the Sox team and they look so good on paper that I start thinking about the '84 Tigers. The last time was 2011, and I'm glad I kept my mouth shut, as I always have in the past. This was one of those years. Meanwhile, the two guys who had to sit out because of injuries that looked like they might be problematical have gone 5/8, 2B, 4 HR, 2 BB (2.950 OPS) in their returns to action, after missing two combined games over three days. And Xander is apparently feeling really good. Double meanwhile, although we're 14-2 folks shouldn't get too giddy, because our Pythagorean is just 13-3. Our run differential is now +51, and the Angels are next-best at +39.

It’s been really fun watching them on this streak. Doing this without Pedroia and Bogaerts too. I also feel like JD Is gonna heat up soon

It sucks to miss games on the West coast but it is certainly a great way to start the day reading last nights box score!!
What a great game for the bats and Mookie but I love seeing the BJ piggyback on Price.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but it IS in my DNA.
Just remember that a team is never as good as it looks when it is going good, and never as bad as it looks when it is going bad.

Gomes is talking about RBI's with Hanley Ramirez right now and he's making it seem like a useful and relevant statistic. I think RBI has gone from over rated statistic to an under-rated one. Driving in runs is a skill set that some guys are better at than others, but yes it relies on people being on base for you. I do wish when they showed it, they included RBI percentages with it

Some mod needs to create a read only “over-reaction” thread and take the best fanboy reaction posts and drop them there for both winning and losing streaks. At some point in May or June this team is going to go into a funk and the sky is falling posts will be better than the talk about 100 wins, MVPs and Cy Young’s after 16 games.
