Devers with one of his best at bats all season even though he struck out.

Price got a little lucky last inning but overall looks solid.

JBJ 0-2 with a so today. In his mind he's prob' thinking he's earned the right to play his way out of this. But I don't think that's going to happen this season.

Is there anything that Vazquez can do well on a baseball field?

It's good to see that Cora has the blundering base running from last year under control.

Since PFF took Carson Smith from his avatar pic, he's been nails. Coincidance? I think not!

Kelly is a decent reliever. He has come a long way If Barnes and Kelly could throw strikes more often they'd be elite, but they don't....

I feel the Sox should continue to play Bradley and Vazquez almost every day. There is no way (short of hidden injury) that their averages will not return to something towards norm. Baseball just does not work that way. I do think one of the Sox pitchers should bite the bullet and ask for Swihart as their regular catcher. I just think i would be a good team orientated thing to do. If Swihart proves to be a disaster the experiment could be cut off.

Kelly is a decent reliever. He has come a long way If Barnes and Kelly could throw strikes more often they'd be elite, but they don't.... Kelly's walked 3 of the last 57 batters he's faced.
Granted, it's also 3 of his last 19, and it's 7 of 73 overall (a bit below average for a reliever), but the overall season numbers are bordering on elite.
He's walked, in order:
4 of 16 hitters
0 of 38 3 of 10 0 of 9
Before his second bout of wildness his BB rate was above-average. Any kind of good sustained streak like that one and he's back in that territory. The jury's still out, but there are signs for optimism.
Barnes has the 4th worst BB rate among 195 qualifying relievers (and has stuff so good that he's still been a solid setup guy). Lumping the two together isn't correct.

I had said before that I thought the Sox were holding Velazquez out as emergency plan B for the Price start. It may have been coincidental but that's how it played out. Now with the next game being the 6th of 13 games in 13 days, it wouldn't surprise me to see either him or Johnson get a spot start against the A's in the next series. . . . . A surprise to me considering the years Betts, Ramirez, Martinez and Bogaerts are having is the Sox team extreme splits VS left and right handed pitching.
VS RH, they rank 1st with an OPS of .825 (2nd are the Yanks with .789 OPS) VS LH, they rank 26th with an OPS of .670
No other team has splits anywhere near this extreme.
They'll be facing a replacement level righty today. No announcement yet on the matchups for the A's series.

Wright must be added to the roster tomorrow, so they'll either DFA/trade Johnson or demote Velázquez. I believe Wright hasn't served his 15 game suspension and that he needs to be activated to do that. I also believe the Sox don't have to play shorthanded during that time. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time but I'd find it difficult to fathom that MLB would allow him to effectively go unpunished.
