Lol the Sox run into a out. The very next pitch, the Sox hit a base hit.

More bad baserunning. This is desperation out of Vazquez and JBJ being so hopeless at the plate.

Well if Vazquez wasn't the worst player in baseball, Holt would have already been at third base with one out.

I had switched to the Celtics game but went back to the Red Sox when it was 29-9.

Well you knew that the bullpen just had to start pitching better and they did.

A drama free 9th. Good job Kelly. They needed that. Back to .700 ball and the highwater mark of 16 games over as they head home.

Yeah I know, but if JBJ were hitting better you'd think they'd keep the runner at 2b who is already in scoring position, but who knows? I was a little surprised not to see Carson Smith pitch. He hasn't been worked that hard lately.

So? That's the plan for the series north of the border? They hit a walkoff dinger to win the opener and they let us win the next 2?It doesn't displease as an agreement tbh

Apparently Cora in the interview after the game said he thought it was a foolish play and a waste of an out. He mentioned the daring baserunning as being in their DNA and that they need to change. So on one hand I'm a little concerned that it hasn't happened yet and they're not listening to their manager (their 3b coach is too daring at times too) and on the other hand I'm happy their manager realizes the value of an out and that being daring can equal being stupid.

Missed that. Great message for MLB to send. I don't know how that is going unpunished. He was ready to pitch and hasn't been able to. He pitched twice at Pawtucket while under restriction and the two times he pitched before the activation he had an ERA of 7.04. He pretty clearly wasn't ready and finished his rehab while restricted. Happy mother's day.

He pitched twice at Pawtucket while under restriction and the two times he pitched before the activation he had an ERA of 7.04. He pretty clearly wasn't ready and finished his rehab while restricted. Happy mother's day. His second start was quite solid -- 3.40 FIP, .316 BABIP (including .444 on GB). But it was actually better than that.
He had a 4 2 0 0 0 3 line to start with, both hits on ground balls. He allowed an unearned run in the 5th on a SF after a leadoff error, strikeout, and two more ground ball hits, but after hitting a batter, stranded all three runners with a groundout. At that point he had a 2.20 FIP, .235 BABIP.
He lost it in the 6th, possibly out of gas -- another GB single, his first LD single, a HBP, his first walk -- and Marcus Walden immediately allowed all three inherited runners to score.
He was just as clearly ready as you claimed the opposite. You should know that you don't judge a rehab stint by the total line. Most guys wouldn't look ready if you did that, and if they did, you wouldn't need rehab.

I suppose my biggest objection is that he was allowed to pitch in Pawtucket while on restriction, I don't think that's right. I also hope he gets booed at Boston but that's unlikely to happen.

I suppose my biggest objection is that he was allowed to pitch in Pawtucket while on restriction, I don't think that's right. You have to let a restricted guy do a rehab-like stint. He's not helping the MLB club while doing so. It would be double punishment to force a restricted player into MLB action cold. That's absurd. We know that they've had a volatile relationship and that this incident led to needed counseling, which is a positive end result. We do know that his wife tried to call 911 even though he hadn't hit her, and he tried to prevent her from doing so. We don't know the background to that at all. I can see a version where she's overreacting and his reaction to that is understandable (I had a close friend who had that sort of dynamic in his arguments with his wife, each doing the thing that would escalate it further, and the police got called several times for ultimately no good reason), and a version where she's doing the smart and justifiable thing.
We are in no position here to be judgmental at all.

My wife and I have been together nearly 50 years. We have seen and experienced alot, up close and professionally, in terms of relationships from those of our grandparents and parents generations, our generation, and those of our kids and grandkids. We have degrees in, and worked in, the human services field, and we discuss cases and trends with colleagues and at home. The literature and our 50+ years of experience dictate that conflicts in relationships are common, and that such conflicts often turn angry, an anger akin to road rage, leading to accusations in raised voices which sometimes leads to physical contact, usually along the lines of a push or grabbing arms and shaking, maybe a slap, sometimes more. This is usually not a crime, usually not rising to the level of official Domestic Violence. It is very different from a pattern of verbal and physical abuse and intimidation, with actual punching and real physical damage. The former behavior is very common and usually worked through, during which relationships likely improve. The latter, which is still too common, is a serious crime.
From everything I have heard and read, Stephen Wright falls into the former category, We don't know what actually happened, but it seems if it was more on the violent side he would have done jail time, his suspension would be longer, there would be no reconciliation, Wake would have disowned him, and the media would be all over it.
For my part, I welcome back the knuckleballer. IMO, under the circumstances he deserves neither cheers nor boos, just an opportunity to help the team and get on with his life, with his family intact, if that is what he and his wife choose.
