That was predictable. The only good thing was we didn't see C Vaz ground out or pop out to some infielder.
Jeez. Mitch gets doubles and doesn't move off the 2nd base bag.

I agree with all of that. Every single day, without fail, I am surprised when O'Brien starts talking about pitcher wins as if it's a stat that means anything. I never even think about pitcher's wins, and then he mentions it like it's only slightly less important than the outcome of the game, and you'd think I'd get used to it but it genuinely surprises me every time. But yeah, Sox broadcasters stand out for being waaaay behind the times in the way they talk about stats. Not many broadcasters are going into like xFIP or wRC+ or whatever, but believe it or not they will mention advanced stats from time to time. The Sox' guys haven't gotten past OPS, and like I said: pitcher's wins. You'd think the Red Sox would have one of the more sophisticated fan bases too, so I don't know why they're so backwards. Having said all that, O'Brien has a dulcet voice, and he calls the action well, which is an underrated skill (as I have learned from being subjected to John Sterling's stammerings; with him you just have to wait til the play is over and he can sort of collect himself to describe what just happened). That's basically good enough for me. Having grown up in Boston and been a Sox fan since '88, I have talked Sox with a lot of different people over the years. I also post on message boards of several other sports teams. I can say quite confidently that most of the people posting here are WAY more intelligent, insightful, and stats/numbers oriented than the average fan. We do not represent an accurate cross-section of Red Sox nation at all. Your average Sox fan, even guys that are into sports and have watched for years and talk about it all the time with their buddies, probably doesn't know what a WAR is or anything statistical beyond the box score basics. Then there's people like my Mom, who has been watching for 43 years and still needs me to explain when they need to tag runners and when it's a force. NESN announcers need to cater to that massive audience, not to us. I do think you're right though that they could at least do a better job of introducing some of those things to the fanbase. Paying attention to advanced stats, which I didn't really until the last 5-10 years, has certainly improved my understanding of the game and player performances. My point, though, is that they DON'T do a good job of that. A casual fan who watches the Sox game is not going to understand what's going on any better from listening to Jonny Gomes. And I'm picturing my mom listening to Lenny Clarke and being all "who is this, why is he on my TV?"

Is Devers a left-handed hitting George Scott (for those who remember him). He would swing hard at pitches high or low, inside or out.

Wright's knuckleball looks absolutely unhittable, which is great news. He just needs a catcher who won't stab at every pitch. Vazquez looks like he's costing him strikes.

Vazquez has a 3-1 count and pops out. I'm getting tired of watching this guy hit.

We've seen plenty of that Hanley show. I don't even see it as squander...it is life as usual lately.

Unless they get something going in the eighth, they're going to end up with the bottom of the order for the ninth inning.

Cora is making it a habit of leaving guys in too long. Wright gave you two good innings. why push the envelope and go for a third?

The prognosis on the Sox isn't good. They have Chris Sale and three number 3 or 4 starters. Pomeranz looks like he's a number 7 starter this year with his diminished stuff at the number 5 spot in the rotation. They just lost one of their late inning relievers and their farm system has been decimated the past 9 months. Their catching position is a black hole.
I hope they can stay in the division, but I just don't know.

Honestly I cant figure out how Oakland remains remotely competitive when they run any talent they have out of town before they get close to having to pay them. Seems to happen year after year. ...because they have more in the pipeline? Seriously they do have a minor league system, Lowrie isn't a stiff and Davis does only obr thing, but he does it well, and do on. They have a few players. Remember, bad teams won 4 out of 10, good teams 6 out of 10.

The hard thing to figure out is who is worse - Nunez, Vazquez or Bradley - right now.

The hard thing to figure out is who is worse - Nunez, Vazquez or Bradley - right now. Sitting Bradley imo is a bad choice. Even if he goes hitless, he is still valuable. He is too good of a defender to lose... This team lacks structure imo. There is no 7th inning guy or 8th etc. Anyone can be used at any moment, all good if it works, but I would much rather see my team lose with the best pitcher at the mound. He does not manage that good tbh, the record is good so far but he keeps losing games by horrible line ups and bad decisons.
