I'm looking at his career as a whole. Not one pitch tipping period. Not one start or another.
Would it be great if he can step up and become a 30-32 start pitcher with a low 3 ERA?
Yeap. The career numbers tell everyone that he'll fall 5-10 starts shy of that and while not putting up that kind of performance (for one reason or another). It's not pessimistic, it's more realistic. He's still a solid pitcher though.

/sigh
You're using career ERA to judge him. Makes total sense, especially for him, with his knee trouble that was fixed with surgery and his pitch tipping problem which was also fixed.

I guess I just don't understand trying to look at career totals to prove one point, while at the same time completely overlooking that when talking about holes in the lineup. You can't have it both ways.

You can't have it both ways. I'm looking at the team as a whole. It's my opinion of where the team is at. Don't agree with it, then give me your opinion of where the team is at. You tell me what Price is. You tell me what Pomeranz is. You tell me what Porcello is. It's very far from a hot take though.

Top three wildcards for the Sox winning the division for me this year-
Thornburg The Yankees rotation Stephen Wright joining the rotation and becoming a force
If those things come together (or not together in the Yankees case) then I could see the Sox winning the division. The way Pomeranz is pitching with the lack of velocity, he isn't long for the DL or the bullpen.

Pedro my point was simple if you're going to overlook Porcello's good stats this year because of his career stats, shouldn't you do the samething with Bradley and Vaz?

Vazquez is a average offensive catcher when he's hitting at a incredibly high BABIP like last year. When he's not doing that (like this year), he's one of the worst hitting catchers in baseball.

So glad the Sox signed JDM. and at the price DD wanted. JDM made money, plays ball in a great baseball town on a great team and we get dingers.

Unless you're getting a great discount on the AAV, then these player opt-outs suck. You're either going to overpay a crappy player (Price) or losing a great player (Martinez)... $20+ million isn't enough that the team should take on all the risk of guaranteed money with extra risk of player leaving. Should at least come with club options at the back end (a la John Lackey)

How is it that Sale throws so many pitches when he is so damn good ?? He's not that good.

add: I am getting busy in life and only follow the Red Sox, so I had no idea how good JDM was, and after a month already potentially mad he can walk after two years.

I can’t believe Swihart can’t get a start with these two pitchers playing catcher.

At this point, it'd be a moral victory if Vazquez can hit it past the pitchers mound.

Hitter friendly parks and high BABIP, I imagine. At least he hit .290 in the majors due to a incredibly high BABIP. His power has translated to a absolute zero in the majors. He has a terrible walk rate too. Just nothing to write home about with Vazquez at the plate.
