Why is JBJ still starting? He is an automatic strikeout with no sign of turning around. It's getting way too late in the season for a .161 batting average to be excusable. I don't care how good his defense is. He shouldn't even be on an MLB roster as bad as he has been hitting.

Getting beaten by 90-92 MPH fastballs. They aren’t even trying to fool him and he’s still missing. I also don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone on a tear quite like Mookie is right now to the point where every at-bat I expect something huge.

Also, please start Sandy Leon for the foreseeable future

Is there a stat page to see the numbers on pitchers production in potential shut down innings? Porcello appears to be laughably bad in these situations - the poor luck of this inning not withstanding...

Nunez with a killer error on a routine ground ball and the next batter hits a homerun
Classic Eck quote about the Nunez error “What is that! This is the Major League’s”

that's just brutal...Nunez completely sucks, they call that a hit somehow, and then a Fenway special homer. really bad luck, I thought Porcello looked really good tonight.

Nunez has been under replacement level and I believe his knee still isn't right. Maybe time for a phantom DL stint once Pedroia is back. Honestly wish Swihart, Holt, or Lin was getting those reps at 2B.

Walking Leon and JBJ to get to Mookie probably isn't a good plan.

Benny is finding his groove. That’s a good sign for our lineup
He actually has a higher batting average than Hanley now

Just was looking at our scores so far for the season - we've not had a real offensive break out game in a long time - 10 runs on April 30 - loads of them in mid April - but we are stuck in a 4-6 run range throughout May. Effect of having some holes break out in the line up (Vaz, Bradley, Nunez - now Hanley a bit).

The pitching is noticeably better with Leon behind the plate.. especially the bullpen

Five runs per game puts you in the top five or so in the league just about every year.

Five runs per game puts you in the top five or so in the league just about every year. Agreed - but for this offense, it is a clear decrease since their start (and lots of those games were in cold weather).

Nice win.
Amazing how much of a have/have not league the AL is this year - Red Sox, MFY, Houston the haves. Then there is the rest. NL seems to have a bit more balance.

The worst thing about JBJ slump is that they'll keep trotting replacement Hanley Ramirez (54 wRC+ for May before tonight's game) in there and triggering his option for next year. People keep telling me that he's a machine when healthy, I keep seeing a player closer to a low WAR value and seeing that as a sunk cost of 22 million next year. Hanley might cost you a cost effective reliever or two for short years next off-season and that isn't a good thing, especially considering Kimbrel is up.

Also, Devers at Fenway is like peanut butter and jelly. Just a match made in heaven. There isn't a better ballpark that fits his swing, and the Sox have a lot of home games left on the schedule.

Kelly's change netted him two strikeouts.....To me it doesn't move much but the speed difference from the FB makes it a true weapon.

JBJ needs a Phantom DL or if he has any options to be sent down when Pedey gets back. He needs to clear his head and work on his swing in a less competitive environment. He is so lost right now. I wish he would just choke up and try to hit every pitch to left.

On the other hand, altering your approach is not the way to find your way home.

Bautista was released today by the Braves, hopefully the benching of Hanley today is the beginning of the same process.

On the other hand, altering your approach is not the way to find your way home. In college he used the off field now he is pull happy with his head off the ball. When he is right he uses left field and not using left field in Fenway for a left handed hitter is just foolish. I had high hopes for him when drafted I really thought he would be a good hitter and with his defense he could be great. As far as altering his approach altering it to actually make contact would really help his game. His at bats right now look like the ones that got him sent down before.

Yeah why would anyone want to pay Hanley Ramirez when you could make a nice safe investment in... bargain bin relievers.

In case anybody doesn't know, JD Martinez is kind of good.
