I'm all for Matt Barnes becoming the new 8th inning reliever over Kelly for the foreseeable future. He's better. He's the second best reliever on this staff currently.

Teams are 2/17, BB with RISP since Pearce's 2B. Both hits were infield hits.

It continues to amaze me how blatantly and often O’Brien spits in the face of the baseball gods.

Geez they need another guy either a GUY - like Realmuto, Gennet or Saurez, or a least a guy like Lowrie or Brian Anderson. This is just getting thin. Chavis screwed his teammates badly with that suspension.

Never would have thought a single run would hold up tonight.

One of the most nerve-wracking shutout wins I've watched in a while.
Good win!

Good road win. And just in time the Mets scored a run to lead the Yankees 7-5 in the 9th.

Red Sox with 69 wins. No NL team with even 57 wins. Keep pushing over these bad teams - build up the buffer!

And hope that Britton gets traded before we face them. We also got a 1-0 win without using Sale.

Mets aren't using Familia in a save situation...never even warmed up. Perhaps on the verge of being traded - unfortunately Gsellman has to close, and he seems like he kinda sucks. Hopefully the Mets win this one.

Hopefully the Mets win this one. Michael Kay said he was in talks of being traded and mentioned the A's as one of the teams. Said the Cubs were not involved fwiw.

You have to also remember games like this when you're so worried about the bullpen. These games are remembered but also considered is the level of competition in October. This Tigers lineup isn't exactly a pennant winning lineup and today the Red Sox bullpen did exactly what it needed to do and very well. You can only worry about the team you play today and the pen, as it has been quite often, has been up to the task. I can only speak for myself, but I worry about the pen still - not in as can they pitch well this season? I think they can. It's when the level of competition increases in October. Those are stacked lineups they'll be dealing with and the more premium high leverage relief options the better. As far as middle relief goes, the Sox are stacked. In fact, over the regular season it's a huge advantage. Other teams have crappy 9th thru 11th pitcher on their staff, but the Sox normally don't. Their 9th to 12th are actually decent pitchers, not batting practice fodder and the Sox routinely exploit that advantage.

FanGraphs now updating their game log automatically, and quicker than Gamecast.

You have to also remember games like this when you're so worried about the bullpen. I'll remember that the Sox avoided Kelly and for good reason.
