Thats your boy Dombrowski. What are you even talking about?? He's talking about Thornburg who is #2 on his s-list behind JBJ. He has somebody else that he hates too. Can't remember who - think it's Price.

Thornburg is another bust. Those low 90s with iffy command won't cut it here.

I feel like a game where Iglesias HR's against us and has 4 RBIs is a game that God himself doesn't want us to win.

I think a good strategy for tomorrow...and hear me out...is for the offense to try putting some runs on the board.

Looking on the bright side... one run in 18 innings in this series so far, and yet they've gotten a win. Have to admire the efficiency of that run distribution!

Never really had a good feeling about today. Johnson pitched ok, not great, but gave them a chance to win, but they didn't hit. Bogaerts had a rough day with runners on. They very much missed JDM.
Can't imagine that Thornbufg did anything to win points as far as eventually returning to a high leverage role. He was awful. Don't have a ton of faith in him.
At this point I'd say he should be below Kelly/Workman/Brasier/Velazquez for the middle relief role.
If they get anything positive out of Thornburg it might not be to 2019 when he's had more time being healthy behind him. But honestly, who knows if ever becomes what he once was? It's too bad because they could really use what he once was.

Maybe the Sox offense just struggles in big ballparks. They didn't exactly light up the scoreboard when they played in Oakland, either, although they did alright in Seattle.
It's hard to string together 3 hits in a row in these big ballparks although the Sox offense would be more likelier to do that than most other teams you'd think.
Hope Sale is on top of his game tomorrow and he gets run support, enough to make it an easy 6 inning game for him.

On the other hand, I'm pretty squarely in the Brasier for the 7th inning Kelly replacement corner. Game point, Swihart looked decent. A couple games like this could make CVaz a potential trade chip. ADDL Detroit's color man, Kirk Gibson was impressed with Brasier, "good stuff" "excellent slider".

Núñez rocking that - 0.7 fWAR. Should have traded for his replacement over the all star break.

He's 1/1, BB when he played the day before. I've always believed that if he got regular PT we'd end up with a catcher we could trade this winter.

ADD: CVaz has a lower bWAR/fWAR than Nunez.

Man every time Thornberg pitches, all I can think about is all the home runs Travis Shaw is hitting for Milwaukee...thornberg just doesn’t pass he eye test. Low 90s with below average command and mediocre secondary stuff? It’s safe to say he’s damaged goods and we lost that trade badly

I had a friend ask me this years ago, and it was a cool bit of baseball trivia: Do you know the six ways a batter can get on base? #6 is incredibly obscure. Edit, that’s a hitter in the box, not via substitutions of course. So like taking all your clothes off and running onto the field isn't one way? lol hit, walk, error, hbp, catcher interference and strikeout that isn't caught I must be missing something because that seemed easy. Lol...I’m pretty sure that’s been tried, especially in the ‘70s. “Cocaine’s a helluva drug.” Ball stuck in umpire’s gear is #6. Can’t ever think of an instance though. Oops, forgot to clarify the error. That WAS too easy. I guess it’s 7...

I really think Swihart deserves an extended chance.

Do you feel like you can really count on that? I'm hopeful that the more time passes and he's healthy that perhaps he can be what he once was, but I don't think the track record of guys with TOS is that positive. But I can keep an open mind on that. I just can say don't worry - he'll the Thornburg of 2016 this season. Brasier has looked good. I wonder what happens when Pomeranz is activated. Does he get optioned? He certainly hasn't done anything to deserve to be optioned. Nor has Workman or Velazquez. I wonder how they're going to play it. I'm not ready to declare Brasier a high leverage relief option, but I'd like to keep seeing what he's doing. If Soria or Britton are dealt elsewhere (in Britton's case that's very likely) then Brasier should get a longer look. If it comes to do acquiring Fernando Rodney or giving Brasier a chance, it's a no-brainer for me - give Brasier a shot.

He only plays one position and we have one of those. We could put him at second or 3rd like we do with Núñez Iglesias' game tonight was an outlier. He has an OPS well below .700. He's hardly an offensive juggernaut. What can he really do that somebody like Lin can't? Are you hoping the Sox can recoup the deal they made for Jake Peavy? Otherwise I can't see why Iglesias would be some sort of must get? If they need an infielder it would be a 2b like Dozier.
