A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons: 5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; So by my estimation of the rulebook it should be suspended A game becomes regulation after 4.5 innings if the home team is leading or 5 if visitor is leading. This game would be postponed with no stats counting for the season That's what I remember the rule to be. I remember a game where Alfredo Griffin, I think it was, was swinging wildly at pitches over his head so that the top of the 5th would end and the game would become official. I think he was doing it on purpose - I mean Alfredo Griffin was one of the least disciplined batters in history but I remember how comically high those pitches were that he was swinging at and it appeared the intent was to get the 5th inning done so it would become an official game. I think if this game doesn't make it to the 5th the homers that Betts, Benintendi, and JDM hit get stricken from the record and the Sox have to make it up at some other point from the beginning.

so annoying
Yes very annoying. Swing at anything near zone and get out of the 1/2 inning as quickly as possible. The jet is waiting!

They haven't called the game yet, so they seemed determined to get this game in. I could be wrong and they call this game last minute.

For the amount of rain we got, it's nice that only 1 game was ppd, but it's incredibly disappointing that it was after a 5-0 lead that now magically disappears. If the Orioles win the rematch by 5 runs or fewer, I'm going to be pissed.

My problem with this game is that they even friggen started the thing. You wasted a inning of Price and now you might have to jumble the rotation all over again because of it.

You can’t say enough bad things about the umps and Major League Baseball for starting this game in the first place. This league is run by the least competent humans on the planet.

According to radar, rain is just ending in downtown Baltimore.

We didn't have to use the BP, so that's a plus. I guess.

The decision to start the game rests solely with the home team. Once the game starts that decision then transfers to the umpires.Cora is furious with the decision to start game 1 of the series also.

That totally sucked. The Sox would have won that big by a ton. Three guys lose their HRs.
Why in the world did this game ever start? They only got 1 plus inning in. So foolish. They took an easy win away from the Red Sox.

If this game has to be restarted at 0-0 then I will suddenly have a rule I hate more than the balk rule. If you can bear with me, here's a complete rationale for why these games are merely cancelled rather than suspended:

Yaz' last career HR (off Jim Palmer at Fenway) didn't happen.

This is frightening, but the Sox also know how to beat a dead horse too, I guess. If you can bear with me, here's a complete rationale for why these games are merely cancelled rather than suspended: Was this left blank intentionally? Oh, yes.
The difference between Pomeranz and Johnson for one start against the Twins is (we hope) unlikely to cost them. Pomeranz so little resembled the guy whi made his last rehab stat that the decision suggests that they had reason to believe it wasn't a fair look. The downside is worth discovering that he's actually somewhat good.
In any case the rotation is set up to give them a choice between Price, Pomeranz, and Johnson for game 4 of the Yankee series (after Sale, Porcello, and Eovaldi). What the Yankees do if they get Happ will be interesting, because he and Severino are both scheduled to start this Saturday, Severino on regular rest and Happ with an extra day. If they give Severino the extra day, which seems likely, they'll be going Sabathia, Happ, Severino, Tanaka in Fenway.

Rotation staying in tact. I wonder if Price will get a inning somewhere inbetween in a game however.

I suppose the Sox owe it to themselves to see what Pomeranz has to offer one last time. I can't agree with it, but they're more forgiving than me. It's smart that the Sox are keeping Johnson stretched out and giving him starts in the meantime too. It gives the Sox another starter in anticipation that Pomeranz doesn't show anything one last time as a starter.

Yeah you're right. If Price pitches game one in Philly, it sets up Price to pitch in the last game versus NY.
