oh boy - Cora says left hammy, possible DL for Devers. Lin, come on back up. Or - is it deal time? I guess it's Lin. Or perhaps Brandon Phillips gets the call tomorrow. I'd prefer Dozier to remain in Boston after the series. Or maybe when the Sox get Keone Kela, the Rangers attach Adrian Beltre - haha.

I do wish the best for Beeks but he was hammered by the O's today. 8ER in 3.1 IP and only 1K to 3BBs.

That stinks. Devers is young and maybe it's not too bad. Pete Abraham reported he walked off without a limp. If it's a 10 day thing I hope the Sox don't make a trade. Maybe give Chavis a chance.

Beeks intrigued me but although the sample size was so small it does not even qualify as a sample size it just seemed to me he could not put away MLB hitters. What was a K in AAA was deep counts and lots of foul balls.

I'm excited to see what Eovaldi will bring tommorow. Hope Devers is just sore. And I'm hoping for Eck in the booth.

I’d love to see the Sox get him and Beltre right now. They still could use a LH specialist or at least a guy who’s tough on lefties, but that may end up being Price or Rodriguez in the postseason. I’m hoping they give Jerez a look at least. I worry a little about the cost for Kela given control years, but he’d be a nice asset moving forward and I think Beltre would be a terrific addition for the postseason. Dude deserves a ring, too. Plus, you know everyone would rub his head when they win it all. And that’s just great theatre.

Again, we'll request that you keep the trade speculation, rational discussion or crazy talk, out of the gameday threads please.

Sad for Devers but happy that I usually get home very late and I always expect the Sox to have won the game.

Something I didn't want to know:
Michael Silverman Verified account
Rafael Devers likely going on DL, said Cora. Strained left hamstring on his early-game bunt, then it tightened on him rounding second in the 9th. Will be re-evaluated on Sunday.

Just keep winning our games Very true. I was out at the store and the game was on, 4-1 Twins. Got home and it was 5-4 Sox. I just like the thrill of a real pennant race again, with a team as likable as this one is. I woke up from a nap and immediately did two things: checked the Sox score and game log (down 4-1, WTF Porcello!) and popped my CPAP machine SD card into my computer to see how long the nap was and how my breathing was.
By the time I had determined that I'd had my longest nap in almost a month (reducing my sleep debt* to 17 h 40 min, the lowest total in the last 12 days) and had no apneas or hypopneas, and entered the data into my sleep spreadsheet, not only had the Sox tied the game, Porcello had pitched his shutdown inning! Win both ways.
I didn't see JDM's homer until hours later -- I was rewatching Ant-Man in preparation for seeing the sequel tomorrow.
*I appear one or more subunits of my circadian clock running way too slow in my brain (e.g., 7 or 8 days instead of 1), so on any given day I've got some mixture of wake signals and sleep signals running nonstop all day. So I go through stretches where I don't sleep enough followed by stretches where I make it up. A typical amount of debt is 3 1/2 hours, and my all-time worst until a month ago was 10 h 40 min. When it got to 13 h + I was talking about my brain doing a Bob Beamon on me ... and within a couple of weeks it had hit 20 h 50 min.

If the Rangers would take Sam Travis for Beltre I'd be in. You don't have to give up much of anything for Beltre. He has a no-trade as a 10 and 5 guy and it's easy to imagine him waiving it to come here and almost impossible to imagine him waiving it to go anywhere else.

Same thing happened last year and he fell off a cliff production wise when he got hurt last year too. At least he isn't injured (like last year), just sounds sore (which is still hard to produce when even sore). I hope Cora plays a lot of Pearce and gives Moreland a lot of time off. That's the best way to probably protect Moreland.

He has a no-trade as a 10 and 5 guy and it's easy to imagine him waiving it to come here and almost impossible to imagine him waiving it to go anywhere else. This will be an interesting situation to see what the Sox do or not do. Yes, it shouldn't take a ton to get Beltre and the biggest reason will be the money that's owed to him. I think it's about $6 million. If the Sox plan on going over the $237.8 million threshold why in the world wouldn't you get him? If they're not going to go over there's no chance they get him. Can't think of a better mentor and useful player to get for 3b going forward than Beltre. I really hope the Sox say the heck with the money - let's go all the way on this! He'd be a short-term pickup but he could have a positive long-term impact on Devers. I hope they go get him in the acquisition cost is indeed cheap.

Well Devers probably injured himself running to first base on the bunt, not on the bunt itself. It was a baseball play. It's not like he did something stupid or should be blamed for anything. As long as it's not a recurring issue, it's not a big deal. I don't know how the bunt can technically be a bad play either. He didn't make a out. That's the one thing you try to avoid as a hitter. When something doesn't work, then hammer him all you want, but he got a base hit out of it to his credit.

Devers' seemed like his injury is a strain, not a big pull on his hamstring that's anything serious. He'll need some time off, but not very long (wouldn't surprise me if he came back after the 10 day DL stint is up).
The Sox should be thinking second baseman here. You really don't have the room for Beltre when Devers comes back either. This team is already having a roster crunch.
Give me Kinsler if you're going for a straight salary dump like UMass keeps pointing out. If you want to give up nothing, then he's your guy for a really big upgrade. I like Dozier, but the smart play with no farm system is probably Kinsler, especially if you're going to go for a reliever that costs a lot or a little via trade.
Also, Dombrowski has a history with trading for Kinsler in the past. Dombrowski shown a history of sticking to guys he's familiar with.
