Blake Swihart at third base. Brock Holt at shortstop. Eduardo Nunez at second. Steve Pearce at first. This is exactly the infield Nathan Eovaldi imagined for his Red Sox debut.

Not sure why they’re waiting so long to get an infielder. This lineup is not ideal.

Well Devers probably injured himself running to first base on the bunt, not on the bunt itself. It was a baseball play. It's not like he did something stupid or should be blamed for anything. As long as it's not a recurring issue, it's not a big deal. I don't know how the bunt can technically be a bad play either. He didn't make a out. That's the one thing you try to avoid as a hitter. When something doesn't work, then hammer him all you want, but he got a base hit out of it to his credit. I thought the bunt was a bad play as there were two outs and Nunez was on deck. I would much rather have Devers be up there swinging the bat then rely on Nunez to get a hit.

A chance to break the game open fizzled away. I doubt that it was Cora;s call.

Devers' seemed like his injury is a strain, not a big pull on his hamstring that's anything serious. He'll need some time off, but not very long (wouldn't surprise me if he came back after the 10 day DL stint is up). The Sox should be thinking second baseman here. You really don't have the room for Beltre when Devers comes back either. This team is already having a roster crunch. Give me Kinsler if you're going for a straight salary dump like UMass keeps pointing out. If you want to give up nothing, then he's your guy for a really big upgrade. I like Dozier, but the smart play with no farm system is probably Kinsler, especially if you're going to go for a reliever that costs a lot or a little via trade. Also, Dombrowski has a history with trading for Kinsler in the past. Dombrowski shown a history of sticking to guys he's familiar with. Sure you do. You don't need two long relievers and an eight-man bullpen, so you can option Velazquez and go back to a four-man bench. You can trade or DFA Nunez, or hide him on the DL until September, and have both Holt and Dozier, and Devers and Beltre, plus Swihart and Pearce.
Now, if their reluctance to trade for a 2B is because Dustin Pedroia is secretly a lot closer to returning than anyone is aware of, I'm OK with that. That would actually make it defensible.

Nice lineup today. They got a guy in the 5 spot who has been hovering around .200 all year! Good luck Eovaldi.

Cora just rattled off a bunch of numbers about just how infrequently the Twins lefties hit ground balls to third base, and just how infrequently Eovaldi gives up ground balls to third base. That’s why Swihart is at third today.

I don't know how you don't at least put Lin in there today at shortstop and bounce Holt to second, to at least give you competent defense up the middle.
Get Dozier!

Given the level of freak out by some (not to say Matt ) about trading Beeks I have to wonder what people think it would take to get Dozier. I tend to think a lot of fans believe a package of Nunez and Pomeranz (or whoever else is on their hit list) would do it. Let's say the Twins wanted Dalbec . I wonder what the reaction would be if that trade was made ?

I hope Cora apologized to Eovaldi in advance for the infield defense he put behind him. Maybe they’ll surprise me

That’s a good inning from the fifth starter. Welcome to Boston, Nate.

Definitely like the fact Eovaldi doesn’t walk many hitters. Minimizes the chances of big innings. Ideal for #5 starter

Berrios is one of the best young pitchers in the majors. I love his stuff, except for when he's facing the Sox.

Jesus, that Nunez check swing was so far from being a swing it's absurd. What an ass umpire.

That wasn't a swing by Nunez. Not even close. Bad call.

How did Benintendi not score on that error? He was well past third and the shortstop was chasing into the outfield to get the ball. Why the hell would you turn around and go back to third? So stupid.

mlb needs to ban home plate umpires from calling a check swing strike.

Love the week the Yankees have had. Sanchez dogs it twice in a game leading to a loss. Judge out with the wrist which could mess him up for the season. And their ace has pitched like crap for a while and could hopefully have a problem turning that around. With the Sox continuing to win the pressure is mounting on them.

So stupid. just guessing here, but it could have something to do with the Sox making a (you-know-what)load of outs on the bases.
