They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules (link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Entering the series with a 10.5 game lead, three favorable match ups, Kinsler returning. Off days are tough...can't wait to play ball tomorrow.

On a personal note, and I am not one to care about other teams players (particularly in the division), i am kind of psyched to see Tommy Pham play. His story caught my interest and I really respect his determination.

You'd think the Indians, with all that WAR and playing in that terrible division, would have a better record. Then again, I guess all that WAR is not totally independent of the fact that they play in that terrible division. That might be a point against Jose Ramirez's MVP case, come to think of it.

Yeah, the Indians are mildly scary too because of their top heavy talent on their team. Bauer, Lindor, Ramirez, Kluber. I'll take the Sox top talent over them easily though.

It sure is nice not to have face Snell in the series.

Jalen Beeks will probably be the second pitcher in the Sunday piggyback game against Sale.

My pick for AL manager of the year is managing in Fenway tonight.

What the Rays are doing is pretty damn impressive, they cut payroll and got better. Then they picked up Glasnow and Meadows from the stupid Pirates.

The first two pitching matchups aren’t all that favorable. Maybe slight edge goes to the Sox, but it’s not like the Sox have dominant guys and the Rays have bad pitchers.

Is this an argument on why using WAR to judge relievers is silly?

I wonder who the Sox plan to send down or DFA to activate Kinsler tonight. Nothing has been announced yet.

Devers back to the DL. All the Holt and Nuñez games are getting old. I get that we have a big lead and they want to rest people but they're just much less fun to watch than Devers and Kinsler.

They're going way out of their way to keep Pomeranz, who is worthless, if its a phantom DL stint.

JP: what would be your AL MVP ballot as of today? Keith Law: Betts, Ramirez, Trout.
Lark11: Honest question: to this point in his career, is Mike Trout the best baseball player in the history of the sport? Keith Law: I would say so. I tend to favor contemporary players over past ones, because the level of competition today is so much higher. The best player in the world in 1910 had a lower bar to clear than the best player today.

Rafael Devers looks and sounds understandably frustrated about his latest injury. He is usually carefree and smiling, no matter what. Not today.

Flip side of this is players today have better medical care, training, equipment etc. I can’t imagine finishing a series and heading for the TRAIN for the next one... or staying in dives, or working in the off season etc.
