Interesting. I guess Mookie is my favorite player (pretty sure our next dog is getting named Mookie) but I think I “root” the most for both Bradley and Swihart. I think the team is best when they’re playing at a high level. Mookie is obviously awesome to watch and dude is a bowler which also amazing. But there's just something about Xander that is so great to watch. I remember watching him as prospect and thinking he had GOAT potential and I'm a sucker for good looking swings and his swing is so effortless and somewhat elegant. Plus the work he probably had to do to stay at SS, which I honestly thought he had no shot at, is commendable. I love how professional the entire core of this team is. Aside from Price having some issues with the media, which honestly are understandable and might make me like him more, you hear nothing but great stuff about everyone. It's no wonder this team is as good as they are.

Kelly might be the most frustrating pitcher I’ve ever watched. 100-mph fastball and wicked secondary pitches.... when he is right, which is almost never for a complete inning. I think “he could be a star” every... time... I ... see him.

Man, Allen plays a hell of an athletic CF. I didn't really know about him before this series, but I do now.

Good win. Nice to see the offense wake up. Let's take tomorrow and get the split.

And just like that, the Red Sox win and the Yankees lose. Wait a difference 24 hours makes.

And just like that, the Red Sox win and the Yankees lose. Wait a difference 24 hours makes. It's almost like the reactions to single days are overblown... But really, there was probably an overreaction to the sweep of the Yankees and the team being on pace to come close to the most wins of all time, but also an overreaction to the current "slide."

I believe that the panic has been cancelled. There's a lot to be concerned about. Primarily Sale. On the other hand the Yankees and Indians have injury issues of their own. I think the Yankees have bigger problems. Not only with the guys who are hurt but they are pushing Stanton hard. The Sox bats are due to wake up. Unlike a lot of fans the bullpen is not a huge worry for me. There are definitely issues but lots of teams are having bullpen problems.

On to win tomorrow - a split would be just swell. Hoping the bats can keep their heat. man, Xander is putting together a really fine season.

That game was exactly what the Red Sox needed.
The bats broke out big, especially against a quality pitcher. The Yanks lost to a crappy Miami team who could have swept the 2 game series, so the Sox are back up to a 9 game lead with a chance to expand it tomorrow.
Hoping David Price pitches a gem tomorrow and the Sox extend their raking session to two games. Hope to see the Sox win their 90th game in person tomorrow, and salvaging a split in this series would be excellent. I said I'd be happy with a split and if they win tomorrow I'll be thrilled.
I think what I've gotten out of this series is that Cleveland is a damn good team, too. They got 3 huge power bats in Ramirez, Lindor, and Encarnacion, 3 strong starters although Bauer would be a huge loss if he doesn't come back, and they have four really good high leverage arms in Allen, Miller, Hand, and Cimber. They also have an awesome manager. Can't take them lightly in the post-season. They came into Boston and took it to the Red Sox for those first two games, so no matter what happens tomorrow they have to feel good about themselves for the way they played this series.

JBJ by the month
April .213-2-7 May .203-0-5 June .202-4-11 July .260-2-17 August .246-3-8
July and August JBJ plus his glove = a really valuable player - glad to see the turn around.

Wonder why Barnes and not Workman got the win.

Wonder why Barnes and not Workman got the win. I wonder that as well - Johnson of course didn't finish his 5 - Workman came in after Hembree nearly gave it away - and it was beyond the 5th - official scorer error - seems like it should have been Workman.

“When all my friends and family ask me what the difference is with this team, and stuff like that, I'm like, 'Honestly, there's no egos.' There really isn’t,” Martinez said. “Everybody is pushing for each other. You could go in that clubhouse, and you wouldn't know Chris Sale is the best pitcher in baseball. You talk to Mookie (Betts), and you wouldn't think he's the best player in baseball. They're that humble. You talk to David (Price), it's the same thing. It's just a bunch of guys guys who are rooting for each other and want the best. Everybody gets almost as excited when someone else hits a home run as they do when they hit a home run. It's a fun group to be around. I think that's exactly why we've been playing the way we've been playing.” That closeness was personified on D&K Tuesday, when David Price and Brock Holt declared Martinez was MVP of the Red Sox In addition to leading the league in home runs, Martinez has notoriously helped numerous teammates with their batting this season. Yet, Martinez said other players deserve the credit for heeding his advice, which didn’t always happen earlier in his career. weei.radio.com/blogs/alex-reimer/jd-martinez-interview-slugger-says-chemistry-biggest-reason-boston-red-sox-success

Whatever advice he was trying to give, you know he was right...

And that's with a .220 BABIP in June, when he was scalding the ball right into every outfielder's glove he could find. It's kind of paradoxical given his monthly numbers, but since June 24th and not counting today he's hit .277/.343/.523 in 172 PAs. Good for a wRC+ of 128.

It really has been an amazing regular season. I dont know how it is going to end, but I do know that I never thought I would enjoy a regular season so much and I have a feeling it likely won't happen again. Even this 3 game skid, well, it made feel good to have some anxiety, I haven't stresses all year. Truly amazing.
