File under "Things you say when your team is up 3-0":
I wouldn't mind Carolina taking a game. A sweep would mean 11 days off before the finals start. That seems like a lot.
Tuukka has been on an impressive streak and I'd hate to see too much momentum lost. I understand the need to rest but maybe not quite so long.
Okay. I got that craziness off my chest.

Valid concerns, the rest could be needed but the risk of losing your mojo is real. Can hope for the west turning into a 5 game series but that doesn't look likely, maybe 6. Then again the B's have pretty much been going every other night for a while, good things to be worried about.

I’ve heard this a lot. It’s almost as is people unknowingly want him to not be as good so they lose because they fear him getting rusty and not being as good.

Yeah, but even then it was a very well played game by both teams. The Bruins are just more talented so the Canes have basically no margin for error. Considering that, it's somewhat remarkable they played a really tough game that really tested their opponents, which is the polar opposite of what the 2018-19 Boston Celtics did against the Bucks. All true but the difference in this game is Tukka Rask. 20 saves in the first period when the Canes came out and played as good as they possibly can is a bit demoralizing for a team that is desperate. B's so far have shown they have what is needed to win a CUP. Peaking at the right time, great depth and a goalie standing on his head while doing a triple axle. One more thing, how about those deadline deals? How often do we look back and think the deals didn't work out and wish we didn't do them? Worked for the Sox last season and looking pretty good for the B's now also. I smell a CUP!! Don’t forget luck... the Canes missed a wide open net a minute in. I think deadline deals in hockey are a lot different due to the nature of the game. The Bruins last cup saw big contributions from Peverly and Kelley

That's a leap. He can still play well and lose.

The Bruins have home ice. I think the rustiness factor matters more when a team has a long layover and then is thrown into the gauntlet on the road like the Canes or the Rockies were in 07.

No other sports on and only 2 posts about the B's going to the Cup finals. Casual fans I guess. Playoff hockey is still the best IMO.

Mostly off the grid until now. Dominance.

Tuukka playing like a man on a mission. He's showing a certain guy that played PG for your Boston Celtics last season how you step up for the post-season.
Just a dominant performance all around, Patrice Bergeron is an underrated Boston legend (tough luck playing in the same era as other greats like Papi, Truth, Pedroia, Brady and Lebron's mom hard loving man Delonte West) and I'm just glad he got another shot at a cup.

I'm the definition of a casual fan, only watch playoff games. Are we this good or were the Hurricanes just that bad? After Jimed talked them up so much, I'm just surprised how easy that was.

Canes were a decent team but they were not as deep as the B's nor do they have a top line like the B's, few teams do. And then on top of that the Bruins have the hot goalie which can mean everything. They put up a good fight but were demoralized at times and just went thru the motions at times.
On to the finals!!

The Bruins are good but not Great. The Canes aren’t a bad team but they are no where near a team that should be holding a cup. The Bruins have been very lucky to play sub par teams so far this playoffs. Toronto is the exception to that, but their D core is terrible and their goalie is average. They are just incredibly fast and an elite offensive squad. Not trying to take anything away from them; you play who you play and they’ve been playing really well and have been getting better as the post season has gone one. However, the Sharks are on another level from the teams they’ve played thus far. It should be an incredible series. Yes, I am saying the Sharks will win.... plus, Boston needs to stomp California again.

The Bruins are good but not Great. Eh, they're pretty close to great on paper at least. There are 4 legit lines and they're a fundamentally sound team. It's true they haven't played any OMG elite team, but I'm not sure there is one of those this year. Maybe the Lightning? But yeah, never trust a Florida team to do anything.

I almost replied to that comment also about good but not great but..... how is that measured? Some of the greatest teams of all time, based on the regular season, have not won the Cup. The Bruins of 70/71 and the Lightning from this past season top that list. The B's of 2012/2013 were great but lost in the finals. As you said, they have 4 legit lines but IMO the Bergeron, Pasty, Marchand line is as good as any in hockey when they are going good. You can bring up other lines that are prolific scorers but I will take our 3 based on what they do end to end. Then throw Rask in there playing the way he is and yes this team right now is playing great. This team got lucky for sure when all the other top teams lost in the first round leaving them with home ice and as the favorites as the best team still standing. Fact is they are playing great and getting some added luck from missed chances from their opponents. This post season really highlights how much the goalie has to do with winning, Rask is standing on his head. Heck most of the goals he has given up have been on redirects that were impossible to stop. I just hope he can continue to be the force he has been and the layoff doesn't screw things up because the B's are going to be the favorites to win it all and thus you would have to say they are a great team. I am thinking and hoping that the leadership on this team is such that they will do what it takes to be ready and not too rusty when the puck is dropped on the 27th. Finish the job!!

I really don’t want to knock the team because - i love them and love watching them play, so I won’t, but you guys are letting their play the last 2 rounds of the playoffs vs 2 weak teams fool your perception of what this team is. Remember we are talking GREAT teams. They have an average at best 3rd liner playing on the second line and a guy who’s now no better than a 3rd defenseman on their top D pairing.

Just to be clear I’m not suggesting they aren’t a worthy cup winning team and maybe I’m being picky but I hold Great to another level.... for example 2018 Red Sox were a great team and 2013 Red Sox were not in my opinion but they were worthy champs

Ok so I finally just read the hockey link, have not read the baseball one and after reading the hockey one probably won’t. This isn’t a knock on you so please don’t take it that way. All my comments below are aggressiveness towards the author, not you. That was extremely foolish analysis. Adding your goalies shooting percentage and your players shooting percentage and saying that’s a metric at all let alone a lucky based one is, to be kind, weird. And then using it as some predictive force is even weirder. So you’re telling me if your goalie has a higher save percentage and your shooters a higher shooting percentage then you’ll win more games than not? No sh-*t Sherlock. A lot of things can be considered luck in hockey that I suppose are to some degree but I’m a big believer in the fact that over time you create your own luck. First an example of the Bruins seeminglygetting lucky that won’t show up in that stat. First minute of period 1, game 4, Rask slips going across the net and Carolina misses the wide open net. There’s a lot of elements to this play on both sides. Is Rask falling bad luck for him/Bruins or is it poor execution of his skating? The Carolina player shoots the one timer wide of the net. Is poor execution by the opponent good luck for you or does it just make you better than them? Can it be both? At the end of the day the teams that execute better usually win. Hitting the post - this one drives me crazy.... hitting the post isn’t luck in either direction. The shooter missed the net. It’s just a smaller miss. “He beat the goalie, it just hit the post”... so what? It’s easy to beat the goalie and shoot it wide or high... most hit posts fall into 1 of 2 categories. First a goalie is in good position so there’s not a lot of room to shoot and you can’t fit it into a small window or second you miss a wide open “window” and hit the post... this is the same as shooting it wide of a wide open net you’re just not as wide. Posts don’t move, it’s not luck to hit one. Deflections in front - obviously hockey players are super talented to be able to deflect these shots the way they do, even with their skill they can’t determine exactly where it will go and a good number of them are unintentional deflections. So yes theres an element to luck on them but you create your own luck in these situations over time And by doing little things that cause the goals. Puck movement, traffic in front of the goalie, quick releases, being strong on your skates and crashing the net for rebounds are all things that make scoring more likely. On the flip side, good goalie positioning, clearing the traffic in front, blocking shots and possessing the rebounds are all things that limit goals that you can control. One of the goals, I’d want to consider bad luck for the Bruins is the goal Columbus scored with the puck going out of play first, but then again, that’s why you are taught to play thru the whistle.

Hoping the Blues win tonight so they will have 6 days off, that should be enough to put a little rust on their skates and even out the time off factor. If Tukka can stay on the ride he is on I like the B's chances.
