The one thing that is worrisome is that it's almost like the baseball gods are trying to scream loudly, "Everything that went your way in 2018 will not go your way in 2019!". Yeah, last year that Xander hit is a home run, or the call is overturned on review. Just bad luck.

Btw, TB is for real. Those guys aren’t going away, and the Sox can I’ll-afford to cede too much ground early. I feel bad for Andújar, yet at the same time the Sox really wanna take advantage of NY’s injury bug, with Stanton out for a bit and Severino and Andújar down for a *while*.

We just can't win in that place. Back-to-back shut outs. Losing to a team that had 1 run on 3 hits. Only one way to go at this point...

The good (Sale stepped Up), the bad (the offense went to sleep), the ugly (they ran on Laureano.. again).

Do you and Grand Salami really believe that? C'mon. I know it's a game thread and there's no reason to blow sunshine up anybody's butt, but the team isn't this bad. Teams do lose 4 in a row - not the 2018 Red Sox team, but most teams do. This team is going to win 90 something games. Unless you really believe they're going to finish behind Baltimore? Want to put money on that? They've played like crap the first five games of the year. That's a fact. Doesn't mean they're a crappy team for 162 games.

Well, we're not in 2018 anymore. Appreciate that season. That was a once in a lifetime season.
2019 is more of a reality season. It'll get better, but it wouldn't surprise me if this team was hanging around .500 a quarter of the way into the season.
I know Oakland is a pitchers' park, but it's amazing how inept their offense is in Oakland. And it figures. They finally get a well pitched game and they still lose because now they're on a run of 18 innings without a run.
And their best friend of 2018, the clutch 2 out dagger hit is nowhere to be seen. No clutch hits. And Xander makes a slight hesitation on a ball if it's hit a foot to the left is gone, and he pays for that slight hesitation thanks to a perfect throw, and honestly I'm still not sure if the tag was put on before he got on the base. The throw definitely beat him, but I would have liked to have seen an angle from the LF's view of 3b.

What a horrible way to start the season. Can’t think of it being worse.
But the reality is we have the majority of our team back from last year which was quite possibly the best we’ve ever seen. It’ll even out, just might not happen until they get back to Fenway to get started

Did NESN show that Bogaerts was jogging all the way down the first base line? I love X, but that's not a great look when you just signed a nine-figure contract.

go suck a duck nyc he looked safe Christopher Smith Verified account @smittyonmlb Xander Bogaerts: “Once I dove into third, I felt (Matt) Chapman hit me before I got to the bag,” Bogaerts said. "I already knew I was out."

go suck a duck nyc he looked safe I was there. Most Sox fans and some A’s fans, watching the jumbotron, thought he was safe, like yesterday at home plate. But whatever, that kid is the new top gun in town. No one will be running on him anymore. Sox pitchers allowed 3 hits and lost. Sox bats hit some really hard balls that weren’t hits. Thousands of elated/deflated Sox fans tonite in the cold, heavy fog. But there were moments tonight when you could feel the boat righting and the rudder taking hold. This scary start could end as soon as tomorrow.

And Chapman is under for velocity. He got hit hard by Detroit tionight. Chapman hit 98. He's averaging 5-6 mph slower than the same time last year. There have been NY news stories about it.

The good part is that these games are on the West Coast and most people in Boston are asleep. Wake up, look at the score, go to work.
