It just took a little patience...grasshopper.
Bases juiced. This could be good.

I know the Sox scored 3 runs, but i think it should've been more. Oh well.

Got 3, should’ve been 5. Need more.

When the top of the order figures their way out their funk, the really big innings should return.

I worry JDM might gave some nagging thing that is hard to shake. He had that great burst, but he’s off these past few days.
I’ve said before: I wonder if a few of these guys are working through injuries.

Come on Eduardo !! Need you to pitch like an ACE !! Doesn't look like he's going too deep into this game. Too bad the Sox blew their bases loaded opportunity to score. More runs would have been nice.

Our tired staff needs efficient ERod tonight. Approaching 60 pitches over 3 innings...hopefully next few will go quicker

Don't feel great about tonight's game. Eduardo is a notorious 5-6 inning inconsistent pitcher and the bullpen is dead tired.

There it is. The homerun ball that has plagued Eduardo all year.

There's another one given up by Eduardo. At least he's consistent with it.

Aaand instead of blowing it open in the second and knocking Gibson out, the Sox offense has gone dry and Rodriguez is knocking himself out.

You’re welcome, everybody. I can only do this a few times a year, and can only use my powers for the forces of good.

Keep hitting. Devers now out with a injury, that is a absolute killer if it's anything serious.

Come on Eduardo !! Need you to pitch like an ACE !! Doubtful Think he ever becomes anything more then a #5 or #4? Right now he's got 1.3 fWAR. If he stays healthy (and yes, that's an if), he's on pace for a 2.8 fWAR season. Last year that would have put him around #33 in the league among starting pitchers. That's a solid #2 starter. Looking at this another way, his .305 xwOBA this year is #44 in the league among pitchers with at least 250 TBF. That rates him as a borderline #2/#3, which to me passes the eye test.

Sandy Leon works a walk and Mookie goes fishing for an inning ending K with 2 men on against the same pitcher. Have a 2019 everybody.

I’m convinced it’s the names, not the performance, that has people thinking they’re bad. But really, they’re pretty good. They’re tied for 6th in fWAR in MLB. And they lead all of baseball in K/9. www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31 They’ve had some issues, for certain. They’ve had a few too many innings because of the poor first few weeks the starters had, and they’re not particularly deep in terms of real quality. But looking at it objectively, they’ve been one of the best bullpens in baseball. And on top of that, the results have been pretty consistent with Statcast, at least for the top-4 (Barnes, Workman, Walden, Brasier). Brasier and Brewer have been better lately; they’re paring out the guys who were hurting them. Would an excellent reliever help? Sure. But I definitely wouldn’t remotely call it a “need.” It’s a luxury. Personally, I’m all for an acquisition, *provided the cost is very reasonable*, in both $ to stay under the lux tax top tier, and in talent going back. But I don’t even remotely get the screams for another uber-arm. I’d prefer they continue to work with Taylor and Brewer, and maybe...*maybe* make a trade at the deadline. I just don’t get the obsession some have with trying to continuously churn the BP. Their problem is that Mookie, JDM, and Beni are all substantially worse than last year. Adding a bullpen arm isn’t going to change their problems with producing runs. To be fair, I've been on Benny and his power disappearance since the second half of last year. It's just, gone. Not to say he won't develop or anything, but I'm concerned about it. Mookie is fine. He's not Mike Trout great, but he's still a ++ player even in his slump. I feel as though JD is dealing with something as of late, which I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse. I don't understand fWAR, but that's a me problem. On the surface, I'd say you were crazy, but I do see that they're actually 5th in MLB in bullpen ERA. They're 2nd in strikeouts, but are also 7th in most walks allowed. Still, they're the 6th best in BAA. They're currently 6th in the majors for most innings thrown. I guess the impression comes from the fact that they're 26th in SV% (53.33% converting) with no trusted names back there. When you need the bullpen to go 4, 3 seem to do fine and one of them will give up the go-ahead run. At least, that's how it feels on the surface. They're 13th in HRA which is pretty good for a strike throwing pen. Boston is 10th in OPSA. I'm not someone who believes in having a closer, though the numbers jump out. Just need a trusted dependable arm. The numbers aren't terrible and are in-line with a team capable of winning as long as the other parts are performing better. 6th, 10th, 11th, 5th are decent places to be for a playoff contender. They're 8th in runs allowed. Tbh, I think this is part and parcel of the whole problem this year. FWIW, the bullpen is 19-9, so the Sox often end up winning those blown saves. But they’ve just had crappy luck and/or poor execution this year. And it’s not just the bullpen. But whereas last year the ‘pen might go 3 1/3 and give up one run, but the Sox come back to win 5-4 after being down 3-1 in the 6th, this year the bullpen goes 3 1/3 after the starter gives up a 3-2 lead in the 6th, and then the offense does zilch the rest of the game and they lose 4-3. This team, this year, is the polar antithesis of last year’s. It’s a mirror image. Last year, every time the Sox were down 5-2 in the middle innings, I genuinely felt confident they’d find a way to pull it off and win. This year, every time the Sox are up 5-2 in the middle innings, I genuinely feel confident they’ll find a way to cough it up, fail to produce late, and lose. Idk what part is luck, karma, failed execution, management error, sequencing...it’s a very peculiar thing. And it’s particularly painful to me because I was a huge advocate of this bullpen plan (once I knew they weren’t going to do my prospect-bagging approach and sign everyone then flip them Chapman-style), and it’s worked. Mark my words: by the end of the year this ‘pen will be downright fantastic. They’re cutting the fat right now. But aside from the few weak spots last year: C, 2b, 3b...which have all done wonderful 180s...everything else has kinda gone to sh*t (except Bogey...he’s too consistent for that, which is why he’s awesome). Unexpectedly, but what’re ya gonna do? I get my misery from this team watching all my hopes and expectations washed away (Mookie, JDM...tho this might mean he stays, Beni, Sale, Rodriguez), but I also get my joy from this team watching the breakouts. There’s something particularly special about Workman and Walden to me, so I keep watching. I like the good stories.

Oooo...perfect situational example coming up. Watch Eddie cough up this lead. This is your 2019 iteration, folks.
Ughh...I really thought Rodriguez would turn a corner this year. So, SO wrong.
