Doesn’t matter much tonight with a 9-run lead, but I’ve asked a few times about shutdown inning stats and can’t seem to find them anywhere. Taking matters into my own hands, my (admittedly) quick research into the matter shows that Porcello has given up runs in the subsequent half inning after the Red Sox score on 12 of 34 occasions this season (or 35% of the time). Since I have nothing to compare it too, I don’t know if that’s good or bad but it doesn’t seem good...
That doesn’t account for a handful of instances such as the first series of the year at Seattle where the Sox scored three in the first and Porcello tossed a clean bottom half of the first, before giving up 9 runs in the second and third...
Tonight’s lead is big enough it should take all the pressure off, so let’s see if he can make it 12-of-35...

Can Chavis get some ROY love? Vlad came up late, right? Am I missing an obvious choice?

Guys I haven't posted often in gameday threads this year, but I just want to let you all know that yes I'm watching this. I'm loving this. I want to live in this game forever.

410 ft on that Chavis double. That’s gotta be out of 28 or so parks.

I bet no. Abuse an end of the bench arm. Porcello hasn't been completely awful. Know when to fold 'em. Porcello really gutted it out this game. Yes, he did. I wasn't intending to disparage him (if that was how it came across). Man earned his pay against a tough lineup tonight, and I don't care what happens here in the 6th.

watching the Devers homer again, finally came to mind the swing and power on that ball i was reminded of...a peak Ryan Howard oppo field stroke.

I apologize to Porcello for overreacting to his second inning tonight. He turned it around and put in a very respectable outing against a lethal offense.

6 inning 3 runs against this offense; great job Rick, you'd take that every time

Captain Obvious here....I can report that except for one inning, Rick "Dont dis me Sox Prospects" Porcello spun a gem.

Up 16-3 and Xander is shaking his head on the way back to the dugout after a flyball out, haha.

I wasn't quite sure that all the hype about Rafael Devers was justified a couple months ago. I've seldom been so completely wrong. This is impressive, as I'm wrong a lot. Boy, can that young man HIT. The fielding (which I was super-critical of) has become at least OK, and probably significantly better than that.
Why oh why must I have a life that goes better when I'm wrong?
Rhetorical. No need to reply.

We were gonna do the Saturday game at Fenway.....had tickets...but opting for Saratoga horse racing on Saturday. I may be incommunicado for a couple of days....but that don't mean I won't be watching.

i LOVE watching darwinzon pitch REJOICE!! I don't think that Darwinzon is ready for AAA, much less the bigs. Given my recent track record, he is about to be our closer.

Someone convince pedrofan that Darwinzon needs higher leverage. Tell Cora that. He's the one listening and knows to bring him on slowly.
