Thank god that's over. This place is truly insufferable during a losing streak.

Wow that last strike was high. Ball game over on a ball way out of the zone. We are now engendering pity....

cant get the 2nd win in a row without the first. Call me crazy or a extreme homer, but I think the boys got an 18 out of 20 in 'em.
Win tomorrow !!!

I loved Orsillo including his sometimes silliness with Rem Dog. McDonough was a favorite...and for most because of his acute knowledge. My single favorite inning of regular season baseball was when one of the on-field reporters told a joke to start an inning. He says "what's a dentist's favorite time of day?" Punchline was so terrible that Orsillo and Remy said maybe a dozen words in between uncontrollable laughter for the entire inning. Orsillo getting fired was a crime against baseball. I hope the guy that fired him is still getting clubbed somewhere. I couldn't disagree more. I think McDonough's being replaced by Orsillo was the crime. A huge downgrade in terms of wit, insight into the game and willingness to be critical. I'm not interested in slapstick humor during a baseball broadcast.

I loved listening to Martin & Woods and Gowdy & Martin....easy to listen to...which is a factor for me....coincident with the rhythm and ambiance of the game. I wonder how critics would view them today tho. Ken Coleman, Bed Martin and Mel Parnell. That's when it all started for me. AM radio, lying in bed, signal fading in and out. I think Ned Martin should be in Cooperstown (already in RSHOF). And Sherm Feller should be in RSHOF.

Good win. Cleveland, TB, and Oakland all lost as well. Nice start to maybe something Sox went from 16% to 21% in one day. Fangraphs. WC. Sox and Rays headed to Sept playoff race ... a race with only the few dedicated fans.

McDonough might be the best PBP man in sports though. I liked Orsillo, and he obviously had a good connection with the fans, which is really the most important thing. O'Brien was very good on radio. I generally like him but he gets tedious when he talks about pace of play. It's a little on-the-nose that the worst thing about particularly slow-moving games is his incessant talking about how slow the game is. My five year old has gotten to the "how long until we get there" stage on long car rides and slow games feel a little bit like that. O'Brien also doesn't have the advantage of working with a consistent color analyst to build rapport with the way he did on the radio with Castiglione or the way Orsillo did with Remy. A good portion of the time he's indulging some pretty mediocre commentators for a single series.

Orsillo was very likable, but he didn't know when to stop with his ridiculousness at times. Even in a close game, they'd be goofing off so much that no one knew what was going on. O'Brien has the personality of a mop with really annoying tendencies like being ready to announce that the Red Sox are pitching a no-hitter by the 3rd inning, just because he knows it annoys the hell out of everyone. Eck saves him when he's there, but Jerry doesn't.
I personally think they could do way better than both of them, but Eck needs to be there. I do like it the 3 man booths with Eck and Jerry, if only because it makes O'Brien just call the game and shut up.

Dave O'Brien was better off when paired with Joe Castiglione. I liked Don Orsillo. How could you not? But he was no Sean McDonough. If the Sox can get him back in a full-time fashion, that would be one helluva TV booth with him, Eck, and Remy.

You're an extreme homer Jerry but I still think you're awesome! I also think that based on last night's game the Sox should sign Porcello to an extension! Nah, just kidding.

From now on I'm just going to watch the Sox in passing. There are better things on TV. Without good pitching they are going no where. It's time we face it. Our two best pitchers last year have done nothing this year. Sale, Evoldi...nothing. And we're stuck with them for years. No minor league pitchers ready to step in. Trade deadline past. So, forget this year and hope DD does something smart for next year. The bullpen is no great shakes, but when you throw in your starters can't pitch 5 decent innings, the pressure is just too much. The offence has been good for the most part, but when your pitchers put you in a hole early on, there's often too much to overcome.
So, wait 'till next year, as the saying goes. It won't get any better this year.
