Being behind 2 teams sucks. Oakland lost, but Tampa won. We're behind three teams, because they're all within a half game of each other. Tampa winning meant that Cleveland lost, and that's more important.
Tampa is the only team of the three that we play again. There has never been a scenario where we pull off this miracle without beating Tampa 3 of 4, three weekends from now. So you can subtract 2 games from the lead Tampa has on us. We can force them to lose three (or four) times. We have no power to force Cleveland to lose. Tampa just did it for us. Now, if the Indians collapse completely and we can catch them easily, we may well wish the Rays hadn't sweep them. But the much likelier scenario is that they continue to play .500-ish ball, and that those extra losses in Tampa will be necessary for us to pass both clubs.
Eh. I don't see Cleveland just free falling into oblivion. The fact they've been losing means they'll likely start winning again. I have them off my radar until they really become within reach. What's really crucial (besides every series at this point) is the next 7 games are against the Twins and Yankees.

Season summed up in yet another play...Travis's non-catch. We've been inches off all year.

Angels announcers seem to believe there's a 3-way race for MVP between Trout, Devers, and LeMahieu.
I.e., the guys who are ranked 1st, 4th, and 9th by fWAR, and 1st, 10th, and 11th by wRC+.

I get that it may feel this way, and that's fine if that's all you're saying, but you understand that this is totally illogical, right? It even has a name. I understand the gamblers fallacy. If you flip a coin it has a 50/50 chance of landing heads. Flip it 4 times your likelyhood of getting heads 4 times in a row decreases each time by half so 50% then 25% then 12.5% then 6.25% (I think that's the math behind that), but each flip is still only worth 50%. Even if you get 99 heads in a row your likelihood of getting tails is still 50%. With that said, it still shouldn't be ignored the statistical improbability of that happening. Baseball is a game of runs. Whereas basketball is ingame, baseball is within games. Eventually they're going to start winning again when they've shown the ability to win all throughout the year. It's not like we're in April. They have a good track record.

Bottom of the order 1-16. For such a stellar offense, it can really vanish for long stretches. Puts too much pressure on our pitchers.

15.6K/9 doesn't buy what it used to That's the magic of a 23% HR/FB rate. He does have a 3.37 FIP and 2.37 xFIP, for what it's worth.

If he could limit his HRs to solo ones, it would almost be acceptable. But the f'ing ball needs to be toned down. They likely will not announce anything about it if they do, and that will be even more annoying.

You have to feel for this bullpen. In this series alone the bullpen will pitch 11,9 and at least 7 inningstoday. Even with an expanded bullpen these guys have to be gassed.

What the hell happened to Robles that made him look like the next coming of Craig Kimbrel? Nice waiver claim by the Angels. Dumb Mets.
