Am I going crazy? Do I like what the Rockets are doing here, playing all wings? That's one crazy switchable defense, they would give us some insane fits. They just beat the Lakers which maybe were the team in best position to beat them. Pringles might be onto something here. You aren’t crazy. I’m not sure it will work in the playoffs but the Clippers only player over 6’9 is Zubac. The Drummond trade basically told us no one cares about Centers anymore.

Question. If you can only choose one of these 3, who would you choose, why and who would you cut to make room?
Isaiah Thomas
Marvin Williams
Tristian Thompson
I think my pick would be Williams and cut Green. I really like Green and what he’s brought but he has no money due to him next year whereas Poirier does. Poirier will have an expiring contract next year that will make him tradable vs carrying the dead money, plus, he’s got some tiny value as an emergency depth center.
Williams brings good shooting and switchable length and a good vet.
Thompson is intriguing and tempting. I might still cut Green if they signed him due to the contracts, but I’m not positive there. Weiss at the Athletic had a nice breakdown of Kanter and Thompson’s defense against Embiid and showed how Kanter is more effective against him. He also showed how the soft double team strategy is actually the most effective way of defending him lessening the need for additional centers. Thompson would be a good add tho.
I’m also, making these selections assuming that Rob Will comes back healthy this year which may be a silly assumption.

Reports say they will play Tucker at C. That should do wonders for your offense, but leaves a massive hole inside. Like can Tucker even contain a guy like Harrell?
It's why I like Kanter. He'll eat up Tucker. I like having options, the Rockets just gave up that. It's 100% small ball. They got Bell who wouldn't have been bad, but then flipped him for Bruno.
What are the Grizz doing? I got the Iggy for Winslow trade, yet they then expanded it shipping out Crowder and Hill. They killed their cap space for next year, all to get Winslow? I don't get that at all, but it's like us winning the deadline in my opinion. They have the hardest schedule in the league to finish the season and just traded two rotation players and Winslow is injured. Maybe it works out long-term, but that pick looks a lot better now. Plus if by some miracle it rolls over, they no longer have max cap space next year.

Buyout guy?
Bismack Biyombo is rated 9th in defensive RPM, miles a head of Thompson who I don't think get's bought out. It's amazing he's only 27, feels like he's been around for 15 years. He rebounds and plays D. Won't play much, but he gives you that option to go big with a really good defender.
I wouldn't mind Williams, but how much does he have left? He's only 33 but he's been in the league for a long time and his numbers are down across the board. Yet if he can still defend at a high level he would be good. Yet could you get him? He's one of those guys that's so-so, yet on the buyout market you'd have ten teams after him. Kinda same with Biyombo, like it would be brilliant if Houston could get him.
It's why I hate going after buyout guys, unless you have extra money the best ones are hard to get.
I'm tempted to say why not Thomas. Yet I just don't see the fit and worry Steven's might feel like he has to play him because of what he once was and did. He wouldn't be bad regular season depth, but it almost seems like it would create an issue that we don't need.
Reports say Waiters is going to be released. It's too bad he's so crazy, because he actually wouldn't be a horrible fit if he had his head on straight. Stevens could have really helped a player like that.

Feel like a guy like Wayne Ellington could come in and do what we need, shoot (admittedly, he's shooting a career low from 3).

Good point about Kanter, I didn't consider that. It's just going to be tough to find many spaces for Brown and Tatum to score one on one and how do you run the pick and roll against them? I'm very interested in what they do in the playoffs.

I think pissed was more disappointed and annoyed but not in an aggressive way. Here’s the write up on it. theathletic.com/1593025/2020/02/08/celtics-takeaways-win-streak/“That’s what they said? He’s going to the Bucks?” Walker said. “No. Really?” Walker and Williams were teammates with the Hornets for five years and remain close friends. Williams raves about Walker as a person and player. The veteran forward obviously cherished their time together. And still, according to Charania, Williams decided to sign with one of the Celtics’ Eastern Conference competitors. Walker, who wanted Williams to join him in Boston, said he was “pissed” to hear about the decision. “He not coming,” Walker said. “Damn. He going to Milwaukee? All right, I’m going to call him right now.” Off Walker went, perhaps to make a last-ditch recruitment call to his buddy. The reaction was the first sign Friday that the Celtics wanted any changes to their team.

Grant Williams from 3:
0-25 to start career
18-43 (42%) since then.
It’s very encouraging. I have to say his shot still doesn’t look great leaving his hand but it’s encouraging to think that within a couple years he could be a legit 3 point shooter.

Can see him being a top 5 player from that draft. Romeo has really nice touch around the rim. I think Tommy also made a good point last night when he talked about how Romeo is a quick leaper. He showed it with those blocks. Also really good to see him nail a 3 with 2 min in the fourth and go 2-2 from the line to ice the game.

Bucks dumped Bender for Williams. While not a great fit, he brings size and shooting something we don't have. Yet he's still raw, more like a long-term type move.

I wanted Dragan over Jaylen back in 2016, which in retrospect is really stupid. But Bender had unicorn potential. He's big, he can shoot, he's not a statue out there. I'm still a fan, but I don't see how he'd get the minutes he needs to fully develop. He needs to sign with a bad team that can give him all the time on court he needs.

That would be awkward and awesome all at the same time. Lol. It isn't a flawless idea lol but he is a really good shooter and IMO an upgrade over Wanamaker. The defense would be the bigger question, but we took a shot at Kanter and that seems to be working well. If he's okay with being a straight up bench scorer that won't finish games, I'd do it!

Be good to have Isaah to go isolation and give him the ball on the bench and let him do his thing. If he's still capable of being that guy off the bench.

Guess it’s a pointless discussion since IT wouldn’t be replacing Wanamaker in the first place. Sure in some situations he may take some of his minutes but Wanamaker will still be on the team. It’s Green that’s likely out of here if IT is signed.

There's a chance the Celtics pass on the buyout market too.
