It's so hard to get top pitching maybe rolling the dice for one is at least worth the attempt. I just would prefer to not take so many risks with players that have had recent health issues. Verdugo does look like a sure thing also at least if he's healthy. We have to trust that they have reason to think these guys are both healthy.

What's the holdup in this deal being officially announced? Still waiting on physicals? Hopefully Verdugo's back is all messed up and he fails his physical and forces the Dodgers to actually give a valuable prospect back. I’d prefer the valuable prospect that’s produced in the majors for a contender That’s like the family guy mystery box scene. Unless you’re saying Verdugo+ in which case.....hey I’m with ya

People are acting like he was the 16th best guy in the Dodgers system.

Buster Olney on the Baseball Tonight podcast: "I do think - by the way - as we move forward there are going to be other parts of this trade that come out. I don't think what we've seen is the final version, yet."
"I've heard that there are other, smaller elements of this trade."

Maybe Jeter Downs is a PTBNL (Of course not!) Hope the Sox aren't giving up anything else!

I had the sense he played to fenway, but holy crap, is his career road OPS really .853? His career at Fenway is .930 Just looking at splits, last year was .977 to .858
his BA split is .319 to .285
That's pretty big. Not claiming Fenway made him, but clearly he benefitted tremendously. And if you add in (I would guess) that much of his defensive value comes from the big RF, let's see how he faires in LA.
I suspect he would not sniff $10/350, but that's just a guess.

He told the Red Sox his terms to stay. You know, I love my job, but if someone is offering me 2/3 more than what I'm making now, I might consider leaving. Everyone has a price. (Except the Red Sox) People keep discussing this as if Mookie asked for something reasonable the Sox told him to pound sand. Mookie wants to make more money than anyone in the history of the sport. Ignoring that ridiculous request doesn't make the Sox cheap or stupid. The Sox should see what the rest of baseball thinks Mookie is worth before outbidding themselves by $150m. I said this last week, his career OPS away from Fenway is .858. He's not setting any contract records if he can't do better than that with the Dodgers. I meant price as a horrible pun for David Price. The Red Sox aren't obligated to hand out record setting deals just because.

Whats great is that to start the season there is an excellent possibility that the Red Sox do not have their starting RF (Verdugo) and a #4 (everyone is fragile) or #5 SP (because Weber is trash). This is fucking brilliant!!!

I’m in a cab on a phone but Fred Lynn’s Fenway non-Fenway splits were so big he was really hurt by leaving. For total career his home/road is like 911/780.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Verdugo. He has impossible shoes to fill in RF. And I doubt Red Sox fans, with their well deserved reputation for being very unreasonable at times, are going to cut him much slack.

Good gravy... why would anyone boo Alex Verdugo on Opening Day? Kid didn't trade himself to Boston.

I hope not also. I figure there will be at least a 7 day grace period. But the first time he goes 0-4, grounding into 2 DP's, and leaving a small village of runners on base he will hear it. It has happened to much better players than him, and even to so verifiable Red Sox legends. I can remember a ton of abuse Yaz took in the 1970's because Sox fans expected 1967 every year, nay, every at bat...

Something have long thought of, but will never happen because it's such a cash cow for every MLB team.. Ban liquor sales at stadiums and get instantly rid of 90% of the obnoxious fans screaming and cursing away what is supposed to be family entertainment.

1. Ian pointed out several times that Verdugo straight up for Betts was a decent return given the circumstances. Keep in mind that Verdugo was the Dodgers #2 prospect in 2018 and is still only 23. Not quite. Using a trade value calculator their relative trade values were close such that if you were getting Verdugo you shouldn't expect a ton more. He wasn't suggesting that Betts straight up for Verdugo would've been fine, if that's how you took it.

I mean... they added a third team specifically to get a pitcher when the Dodgers wouldn't move May.
Law's statement is based on his projection that Graterol likely is in the bullpen long term. Clearly the team feels differently.

Clearly the team feels differently. Yeah. I went to bed before the trade and got up this morning and saw this thread had already gotten to 18 pages. I looked up the deal and my first thought is that the Red Sox think more of Graterol than anyone else. Nothing I've read today in the hundreds of pages of text about it suggests otherwise.
