something is probably up with someone's medicals. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the injury risks of many of the moving parts here.
this tweet here from redsoxstats might be hinting it's Brusdar

Oh I'd bet if he's playing opening day that he'd get booed. Good gravy... why would anyone boo Alex Verdugo on Opening Day? Kid didn't trade himself to Boston. I mean I personally wouldn't do it, but I can certainly see it happening.

Great to listen to the emergency Mookie trade podcast and hear realistic, mature analysis of the trade, instead of some of the puerile unrealistic whining on some of these pages.

If there's an injury concern then I hope it's not something that will impact 2021 and beyond. I'm ok with whatever happens in 2020. Maybe an injury can be used as leverage for an extra piece or two.

This deal doesn't happen without a top 50 pitching prospect like Graterol. Idk what the Dodgers or Twins will do in order to rectify this if there's an issue w him. I doubt we get May but I can see the Dodgers throwing in Gray, Gonsolin or Downs to make it work. Maybe the deal falls through and talks have to restart w the Padres. We'll soon find out

It says something about the trade that it could be the elbow of the guy with a history of elbow problems or the back of the guy with back problems. Huzzah!

But we didn’t trade an MVP to get him, and he is not supposed to be a part of a rebuild that is off to an inauspicious start. Or, put differently, if I were the Dodgers would I send a balky back for a healthy MVP and a possibly balky elbow throwing in a balky elbow from the Twins? Hell yeah!

There’s a lot of unsubstantiated chatter that it is Graterol that failed/has an issue with his physical. If that is the case, the current deal would need to be reworked and wouldn’t the Twins have to send a different prospect since they’re still getting Maeda? Or the whole deal could fall apart. If the Twins do have to send another prospect, they’ve got the guys to do it. Graterol came in at 83 on MLB pipeline’s top 100 and Minnesota also has 81 and 86 (I know rankings don’t mean crap to front offices, but it shows that the consensus talent evaluation is comparable). Don’t think there’s any chance they talk them up to Kiriloff, but maybe they get one of the other guys and another prospect. EDIT: Now that I think about it, there’s no reason that Los Angeles couldn’t just keep Graterol anyways and send a different prospect so that’s an option too.

Graterol medicals holding the deal up.
tldr for those who can't access the athletic site: Sox got a look at Graterol's medicals and based on what they saw they project him as a reliever at least for the time being, when they thought they were getting a starter. Rosenthal says this 'revised interpretation of risk' after seeing a player's medical records for the first time is not uncommon. Verdugo's medicals checked out.
Sox will seek some extra compensation and there's lots of moving parts, but still expect a deal to be complete.

Chris Cotillo@ChrisCotillo Blockbuster update: Red Sox viewed Brusdar Graterol's medicals and "projected him more as a reliever than a starter," per @ken_Rosenthal . Sox might ask for additional player or money.
Teams "confident the deal will be completed, but perhaps not in its original reported form."

Throw in Downs. I always loved a Verdugo, Downs, and risky but upside pitcher deal.

Seriously, please tell me it's an additional prospect. The fact that they agreed to the deal in the first place suggests they got to a point they were comfortable with moneywise, is more room under the luxury tax really going to provide added value?

Great, so they did trade Betts and Price for an outfielder and a reliever. Perfect. He better be a lights out closer and/or whatever additional piece better be significant or else they really got taken in this trade.
They thought they were getting a potential top of the rotation starter and instead he's just a reliever? Awful. Makes me wish they'd just undo the trade.

Throw in Downs. I always loved a Verdugo, Downs, and risky but upside pitcher deal. If only. It'll probably be some low A lottery ticket. Damn disappointing that they're not getting a badly needed cost effective mid to top of the rotation starter.
