Wow, the Dodgers kept the Red Sox away from all of their pitchers and kept them off of their top 2 catching prospects. Wong has a terrible BB/K ratio, and it wasn't good in AA either, yet his numbers went nuts. What happened to cause that! I mean he suddenly killed AA pitching. Why? .467 BABIP He does have a lot of pop though.

Dodgers send Verdugo, Downs, Wong, Maeda, Pederson, Stripling and $10M and get Mookie Betts, David Price, Graterol, comp pick, a boatload of cash and 3 prospects from the Angels.

I wish we'd been able to convince Friedman to part with one of his 10 starting pitchers, but other than that, I guess this is as good a return as could have been expected. Downs is a better second piece than Graterol if the latter is a reliever, and the third guy is just gravy.

Damn. Would have probably preferred that pick to Wong. Would you rather have gotten Graterol plus that pick than Downs and Wong?

Wong looks like the new Swihart.

OK outfielder, risky 2B prospect, depth catcher. Cool.
2020 will be dismal. The right side of the field is subpar, and the pitching is likely to be pretty brutal.
The only real upside is clearing money. This barely moves the needle on a depleted system. Was weak before, and it is weak now. With a weaker Sox. Fun.

Can the Red Sox trade Connor Wong back to the Dodgers for Brusdar Graterol?

Selected Dodger fan quotes:
I am absolutely livid at how this ended Maybe its petty, but it is what it is. I hope freidman never deals with bloom or henry ever again.
That is a major change. Will wait to hear the final terms but losing Downs and Verdugo really hurts.
Boston got way more than the original deal. That leaves more than a sour taste in my mouth.
This deal keeps getting worse all the time!

I'm no fan of Verdugo, but if his back is fine, he's an above average player already with a chance to improve. All prospects are risky if you want to go there. Downs is a legit prospect, somebody who helps restock the system. I would anticipate he'll wind up the future 2b for the Red Sox. They could use esone. Don't know if Cannon will be anything other than ordinary. His defense is already questheionable. Wong looks like a backup catcher to me. He'll K a ton, which should limit his BA, but he will pop some HRs over the monster. They didn't get nothing for Betts. Not happy Betts was dealt, but beyond that Bloom did what he could do. Just amazed they couldn't get any pitchers from LA.

Downs is ranked 44th on MLB and not in BP's top 101.

Everything pans out well, Casas and Downs could be the right side of your infield, with Devers and Xander. Pitching still a question mark, but there's reason for optimism I think.

Did we finally get Pedroia's long term replacement? Another sad aspect to this trade in a way. Guess I've never resigned myself to him never playing again even though I knew it in my mind.

I get some people are just going to be negative about this no matter what but Verdugo is much more than just an okay outfielder, Jeter Downs more than a risky 2b prospect (I mean, all prospects are inherently risky), and Wong could be a part-time major leaguer. Stop trying to downplay the return just because you don't like losing Mookie. It's a good return.

I was excited for Graterol's arm. I was kind of bummed he wasn't included again.
This all comes down to Jeter Downs being a great contributor in the future. Wong is a throw in. I compared him to Swihart, but I probably would rather have Swihart back in the day before the Sox screwed him up.

Alright, now that this is finally over, I'm going to say that I'm excited to see Verdugo in Fenway. He has sneaky power to LF and I see him being a doubles machine. I hope his defense is above average and that he learns a thing or two from JBJ this year.
He did hit a deep HR to RF in Fenway last season.

This is probably as good of a return as it was going to get. I arguably like this more than the original return. I’m excited for Downs and Verdugo. If Wong can improve his K rate and defense, that will be exciting too. This is a much better return than the original return but I guess you can’t please everyone

5 years of a starting rf potentially 6 years of our starting 2b plus our future backup catcher AND we reset the cbt which was always the best way to keep Mookie long term is Not a bad return.

Lolololol Your post became an absolute joke when you said he’s significantly overweight, there’s video of him playing last year. You know that right? Marble-sharp Numerous sites, including Baseball Prospectus list him at 6’ 1” 265 which is significantly overweight for a baseball player. legacy.baseballprospectus.com/card/106074/brusdar-graterolthis no longer really matters BUT GO LOOK AT HIM INSTEAD OF PARROTING PEOPLE THAT CALL INTO SPORTS RADIO Seems like they sacrificed a pitching prospect they wanted for a catching prospect they wanted I kinda like this package a lot
