Off-topic, but my 2020 Sox calendar is off to a terrific start with Pedroia, Price, and Betts going January, February and March. I hesitate to ask, but April?

Meaning what? Do you think, Chris, that the NL West parks won't potentially hurt Mookie's stats? Do you think any team is unaware that Dodger Stadium plays differently than Fenway Park and is just going to be all "oh his OPS was .885 instead of .915, no reason to pay the man?" His raw stats being lower doesn't hurt his value, that's the entire point of park effects. I think the more relevant question is whether Betts particularly benefits from Fenway, which is not something generic park factors would account for. Of course teams would be generally aware of this consideration too.
And by the same token, if Betts particularly benefits from Fenway (Green Monster on offense, big right field on defense) then he's especially valuable to the Red Sox. Which would be relevant come November.

If you want to get an early look at Connor Wong: Damn that swing is violent. I do like at least through the first few pitches that he's pretty even in the box.

If you want to meet Jeter Downs, here is an interview:

cyaz8 said he expects Mookie's numbers to drop, causing him to lose his contract gamble. You said you see it the same way. I didn't say it would hurt his value. I said their offensive stats may be pretty close. It is clear now that you did not intend to say it would hurt his value. But as he said, you quoted someone who did say that and you said you agreed. I was replying to both of you.

Mookie is absolutely much more valuable to the Red Sox than to any other team. And I do not think that park adjustments ever paint the entire picture, especially with players who have a "Fenway swing" like Mookie does. And then Fenway's RF is adjusted defensively as the same as every other RF.

I have read 4 scouting reports on Downs. You would question if the scouts were discussing the same player.

My take away from all this: Do not play poker with Bloom.

My take away from all this: Do not play poker with Bloom. Just talking to big Dodgers — I think it is fair to say the delay worked even better for them. They gave up guys who were deep in their depth chart, got what they originally wanted and added a bullpen-ready arm. The idea that Bloom “won” ignores that the Twins got what they wanted and fave what they were giving and the Dodgers got a better deal than they had gotten. People might prefer what Bloom got to the first deal, but it wasn’t at anyone’s expense.

Where you more or less sad when Nomar was traded in 2004? I'm genuinely curious, because while I obviously root for the team I don't feel any visceral attachment to professional athletes.
