Millsap is old and just posted his worst defensive ratings of his career. He's an okay piece, yet wow. Danny seems to really have dropped the ball here. He returned to the Nuggets anyways

Agree on waiting but there aren’t many players left to sign if we are being honest.

A disappointing end to a disappointing Celtics career for Boston with Hayward. Talk about snake bitten. Guess the Celtics are screwed now. No more lottery picks in the future either to hold out for. Yikes.

Yikes. This is where I remind people that Jayson Tatum is 22.5 and Jaylen Brown just turned 24 and they keep getting better. NBA players don’t hit their primes usually until 27 or so... as long as those 2 are here this team is not screwed.

They have no cap space best case scenario (Tatum max extension) for a long time too.

In 3 years (23-24) they can have Max room to add a guy to Tatum and Brown - that being said, you don’t NEED Max space to add a guy. Let’s see what happens this is going to be a good team next year. They lost Hayward, who was never even healthy here. They have the Williams who could both be a lot better next year. They have Langford who can still be a really good player They just drafted Nesmith - what if he is a dead eye shooter and develops more into a Middleton type but with an even better shot? They can add someone with this MLE to give salary for trades..: there’s a lot of things that can still happen

Today feels like a disaster, but I’d still rather be in the Celtics’ position than most teams in the East.
They desperately need to add a couple veterans and a bit of size up front. I’m as high on the Williamses as anyone, but they have a lot of work to do and Theis got exposed big time in the playoffs.

If there is one thing that pisses me off in all this, it’s that you traded Desmond Bane/Tyrell Terry/Xavier Tillman/Robert Woodard/Tyler Bey for space to conceivably sign Hayward and not exhaust all your space. Also, until he proves me wrong, Payton Pritchard was a wasted pick, and the fact that RJ Hampton and Tyrese Maxey were drafted within his range and you pissed away pick 30, well, pisses me off.

Celtics signed Tristian Thompson - guess that’s good since Robert Williams is hurt a lot but I’d rather him playing when healthy.

Hayward at 4 years/$120 million is not good value. Save that money for the Tatum extension. Thompson is an upgrade over Theis, so I’m cool with that signing. Time to find a veteran wing.

Thompson got the full Midlevel on a 2 year deal. That’s good, some salary to deal too and not a negative contract asset.

So that means they are hard capped at the tax right?

So that means they are hard capped at the tax right? Yes they can’t go into the tax... i think they are still like 18m under it tho

Wannamaker signed with Golden State
Theis and Semi’s contracts were guaranteed today.
Part of me hopes they sign a veteran wing but another part of me hopes they are forced to roll with Nesmith and Langford

Jeff Teague is the Wannamaker replacement. 1 year deal... terms unknown - guessing vet minimum

And apparently a S&T is still in play with Charlotte. Maybe Ainge does know what he’s doing.

Wow, Danny's grade D-
I can't stress how bad he's done from draft, to Hayward to these signings.

I do have issues holding up a trade, which meant all the perfect free agents signed elsewhere. He should have made the trade or moved on quickly.

You seem to be making two assumptions - that Gordon had agreed to a deal with Indiana, and that the Celtics weren’t simultaneously talking to free agents. There aren’t any reports backing either assumption up.
I’m not thrilled with the offseason right now, but it doesn’t sound like the Celtics are done yet.

The Celtics got better this offseason while getting under the tax and letting a player walk who 1. took up nearly a third of the team’s salary, 2. Couldn’t be relied on from an injury perspective, and 3. Played like an absolute bitch in a must win game 6 against the Heat. His gimme miss in game 6 felt backbreaking.
In a wild market in which Davis Bertans got 80 million, Christian Wood only got 42 over three years. So don’t tell me that Myles Turner is an asset at 18 million a year.
I didn’t love Danny’s draft. But I think Nesmith has some eff you about him that’s going to surprise people. He fought hard on defense and has NBA size at the wing.
Grant is a rotation piece. If Romeo can get healthy he is a legit two way wing. You upgraded Wanamaker and Kanter’s positions.

I do have issues holding up a trade, which meant all the perfect free agents signed elsewhere. He should have made the trade or moved on quickly. There was no trade. Gordon wasn’t going to sign for 50 million less to play in Indiana. And Turner is not a real asset. I’ve detailed this on this board before. He is one dimensional on both sides of the court and is being paid twice what Tristan Thompson, a legit crunch time playoff big, is being paid.
